Dixie's Story
Meet Dixie — a 10.5-year-old Jack Russell Terrier/Chihuahua mix with a heart full of love and plenty of pep left in her step.

This sweet senior girl was sadly abandoned by her owner in Louisiana, but she’s made her way to Iowa and is more than ready to start a brand-new chapter. Dixie’s face shows a little silver and her body has a few lumps and bumps that come with age (none of which are health concerns), but don’t let that fool you—she still has lots of good years ahead of her.

When the mood strikes, Dixie loves to play! Warm days are her favorite, and she’s happy to prance around outside with her canine friends or even engage in a game of chase. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs and does well with cats and kids, too. Indoors, she’s all about the cozy life: Dixie adores stuffed toys and will happily hoard them if allowed, and she’s an absolute glutton for attention. Pets, cuddles, lap time—she wants it all. Once she’s worn herself out, she’s perfectly content curling up right next to you for a well-earned nap.

Dixie is potty-trained and crate-trained, though she may need a few extra potty breaks due to her age. She would thrive in just about any home that’s ready to give a happy, affectionate, and energetic senior girl a soft place to land and all the love she deserves in her golden years.

If you’re looking for a loyal companion with personality, playfulness, and a whole lot of heart, Dixie just might be your girl.

If you’re interested in adopting, please fill out our application, and someone will be in touch with you shortly!
https://animalwelfarefriends.org/adopt/application/
