DIESEL 's Story

MEET DIESEL !

Text or call Kim today to talk about Diesel! 630-803-9278

Diesel really doesn’t need much. He’s content with a simple, quiet life where he’s taken care of, where he can protect his person, and be included in daily life at home while he glides through his senior years. He needs a family, a person, a home, a soft, safe & loving place to just-be. Maybe this might be with you!

Diesel is 12 years old, but don’t let that number worry you. He's a healthy guy. Diesel is currently overweight at 120 lbs, but otherwise tip-top! We are often guilty of over treating our rescue dogs. I think we do it because we love them and we feel for them not having a real family. His former owner prided herself in taking good care of her pets. That has served him well.

This guy thought of himself as “The Mayor of Edwards Street.” I think everyone else thought of him that way too! His duties involved protecting his property, walking the block to make sure things are as they should be, greeting delivery guys, waiting for neighbors to come home, and grabbing a nap anyplace he felt like! The neighborhood cats loved to congregate on Diesel’s front porch. He was always out there with them while he watched the going’s-on in the neighborhood. And he’s such a good boy that he never ate their food! Though he’s no longer living there, he still carries himself that way.

Diesel loves it when the leash comes out. His enthusiasm can lead to pulling so some manners could be instilled. He enjoys riding in the car especially when it includes pup cups at a drive thru window! He has done very well when we’ve had him at adoption fairs or out with the public at other times.

Fetching a ball, searching out treats, hanging out with a dog buddy, claiming where he wants to sleep- no matter if someone else is already there, napping in the grass with his favorite ball nearby, and checking out the other bowls to make sure he got his fair share — these are some of his favorite things!

______________________________
HERE ARE THE BASICS ABOUT DIESEL:

- Age as of 2026, Twelve
- He’s in good health. Other than this guy, how many seniors can say no meds, no ailments?!
- Breed Best Guess: Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Mix
- Current Weight: 120
- Weight best when it stays around 90-100
- Coat: Smooth, bristly, and the old guy is thinning! But we don’t hold it against him!
- Current activity level: Low, due to his age, but mostly the lack of volunteers to play ball with him or take him on walks. He does love a car ride, especially if it comes with a drive-thru for a pup cup!
- House-Broken/House-Trained
- Uses a doggie door
- Leash trained - with more experience, he’ll get used to not pulling at the beginning of the walk. He’s a good boy and he will mind you.
- Follows basic commands- He certainly sits for treats!

_________________________________
SPECIAL TRAITS:
- Travels well in a car
- Walks on a leash
- Loves Attention
- Simply loves to be with people!
- Good with other dogs
- Good with cats
- LOVES going for rides
- Enjoys hanging out with dog buddies
- Napping is a beloved pastime
- Makes Us Laugh
- A Tail-Wagger! Be ready for his precious puppy moves to come out when he’s a happy camper!
- Does best with a regular routine
- Squeak toys & chew bones help him pass the time
- Needs minimal exercise
- Has a good disposition
- Happiest when his people arrive, someone is preparing his meal, and when someone tells him, “Go get your ball!” But truly, lying on the floor while his person watches tv, that suits him just fine.
- Would rather not go to the vet, be left alone for long periods of time, live in a hectic environment, be made to live outside all the time (he’s done that for too long already.)
- Pet Respectful Children - Good fit

_________________________________
HEALTH:
- Neutered
- Microchipped
- Current on vaccinations/shots
- Flea/Tick/Heartworm preventative
- Good at the vet when muzzled; this has not been a problem for us.
- He is treated for seasonal skin allergies.
-He’s always tested Heartworm Negative!

_________________________________
RESCUE STORY:
This twelve-year-old, big boy Diesel is really special to us. After being loved and cared for his whole life, he was abandoned at the home he lived in since he was a puppy. His owner’s health deteriorated with Alzheimer’s and her family didn’t want him. So they left Diesel there, along with another dog named Pebbles. Caring neighbors would bring them food and water. They did this for TWO YEARS.

That’s right, Diesel was left there to fend for himself, with limited access into the house that was, at that point, falling apart and full of junk. This was his reality for TWO YEARS! During the hottest heat & the coldest freezes, thunderstorms, ice storms, and tornadoes he was, for all intents and purposes, alone.

In January 2024, their plight was brought to our attention & we immediately brought him into our rescue program. Though Diesel seemed to enjoy being the “Mayor of Edward Street,” he needed to be cared for by a family that will keep him safe and comfortable and allow him to be the wonderful companion he always was. We want that for him!

Diesel deserves the best!
It’d be super if that is you!

_________________________________
THE SPAR APPLICATION PROCESS:
We do the following to help ensure the best possible forever-match:
1. Review the fully completed, submitted adoption application.
2. Have a phone interview
3. We obtain a reference from your vet.
4. Meet and greet held with the dog.and the whole family that lives in the home
5. Compatibility testing by SPAR to ensure the applicant's pets get along with our rescue.
6. Home visit conducted prior to adoption. These are done in person or via FaceTime, etc. This is just a quick walkthrough to see where the SPAR dog will hangout, sleep, eat. The yard is also examined. We may provide suggestions and recommendations regarding the pet.

_________________________________
WAYS TO MEET YOUR NEW DOG:
- Complete and submit an adoption application first.
- email: SPARpets@gmail.com.
- Contact us via a Petfinder Inquiry
- Text or call Kim today at 630-803-9278 (leave detailed info)

_________________________________
IMPORTANT ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS:
- Fenced yard (Safe & dog-tight)
- SPAR Dogs must reside indoors, living as part of the family, in the home.
- Applicant’s pets must show regular vet visits that include exams, all vet suggested vaccinations, monthly flea/tick/heartworm preventative.

_________________________________
FIND OUT WHAT WE’RE UP TO:
- Facebook
SPARShawnee

- Instagram

- Website
www.SPARpets.org
.
