Diamond's Story
Please meet Diamond! She is 2 1⁄2 years old, and even though she has already had one litter, she’s been spayed, is current on her vaccines, and is crate trained. We think her mix is Boxer and Staffy, but we aren’t certain about that. What we are certain of is that she’s pretty darn awesome! In her foster home, Diamond has gotten along great with the animals who live there, including a male dog and a cat. She is incredibly gentle with them. Diamond has been around kids of all ages but prefers older ones (over the age of 10) who know how to be gentle. Ideally, she prefers a quiet household with not much activity, as her favorite activity is curling up on the couch and having her belly scratched! Diamond isn’t all that big into playing fetch, but with some time she’d probably learn to love it. She does, however, love to play with other dogs! We believe Diamond’s ideal forever home would be one with another dog (preferably male) who she can learn from and who can help her build up her confidence. She would also thrive as the princess of her own palace as well. Having a buddy in her foster home has taken a lot of pressure off her, and she’s proven to be very observant and picks up on things quickly. Diamond has been extremely respectful of the resident dog’s space when he’s not interested in spending time with her; she knows to back off and give him space or find her own space to just chill. Diamond prefers to nap and chill out on a couch or comfy chair, and loves to cuddle with her humans, but loves to sleep at night in a crate or kennel. It is her safe, protected space. Diamond has proven herself to be well-behaved in the home and doesn’t chew on or scratch any furniture or household items. She will bark though when she’s fearful of someone new coming into or near the home. She’ll need a strong leader in her forever home who can show her that she doesn’t need to be afraid of visitors or even the mailman. With time, patience, and consistency she will trust her caregivers and her new surroundings. Diamond knows some basic obedience skills, such as sit, stay, and come. Because she’s food motivated and a quick learner, she’ll be fully capable of learning many more skills. She is great at mealtimes (no begging at the table) and sits and waits for her food to be prepared and served, only eating when she’s told it’s “okay”! Diamond loves walks and seeing the outside world. She is great on-leash and is a very pleasant walking buddy. On hikes in particular, she does very well off-leash, staying close to her companion. Diamond is a huge cuddle bug once she gets to know and trust her people. If there is a soft space (or even not a soft spot) she will wiggle her way into your lap or perfectly within belly-scratching reach. While she is only about 40 pounds, Diamond has a huge heart and the personality of a big dog. Her long tail results in her entire body wiggling whenever she is excited to see you or anyone she loves; it truly is heartwarming to see. This young lady is quite the catch and will make a wonderful addition to a couple or a small family who can provide her the patience and time she’ll need to fall in love with you. Don’t worry, it won’t take long! If you think Diamond is the girl you’ve been waiting for, please let us know by submitting an adoption application – https://www.mustluvboxersrescue.com/adopt.
