Devan's Story

Written: 5/22/26
Updated: 6/30/26
Age: 1 year, born May 2025
Weight: 45lbs.
Breed: Pitty

Meet Devan the Deaf Diva!

Let us tell you about this special girl. Before coming to B&B, Devan was found as a stray in a nearby county and was really struggling in the shelter. She couldn't hear anything, but the vibrations of all the dogs barking and moving around made her quiver in fear during the day. Thankfully, a foster said yes!! so we sprung her from her jail cell and she is relaxing in a comfy home just like she should be.

We needed transport help from the shelter and another amazing volunteer stepped up. It just so happened, that the day Devan was scheduled to leave the shelter, was exactly one year after our transporter (Devan, you see what we did there) said goodbye to her female white deaf pitty, Bailey.

In honor of Baileys one year anniversary and Devans commitment to helping animals in need (and the fact both of them are absolute DIVAS), we knew we had the perfect name!

She is wonderfully joyful and sweet, sweet, sweet! She is goofy, happy, and phenomenal on a leash! She has about 15 minutes of gas and then its all brakes, with lots of cuddles. She will walk a few miles though, as long as she's with her people, she's happy!

She is good with other dogs and would thrive with a family who understands that deaf dogs rock. She has been cat tested and does well! She adores other dogs and can come on a little strong, with lots of excitement and love, but does settle after she gets adjusted! She loves to play, go on walks, run around, and afterwards just let her tongue hangout as she lounges in the grass. She adores being outside and being your shadow! She plays hard-but also matches the play style of her companion. She doesn't have any issue sharing toys or treats. She LOVES bully sticks and tough chews. She also loves to bring you various house hold items when she's excited- like shoes, cleaning supplies, remotes- she really just wants to help you tidy up!

Devan is a joy to train and has a love for life and companionship that is truly a testimate to her resilience.

Devan is potty trained, crate trained, and has gone to training to learn e-collar and basic commands with a trainer experiences in deaf dogs! She knows sit, down, heel, crate, and her recall with a simple vibrate of the collar is great. Her theme song would be 'Diva' by Beyonce, like the queen she is and can even read your mind! She would do best in a home with a yard and an owner committed to work on her signing!

She is being fostered in Richmond, VA and is up to date on core vaccinations, has been dewormed, spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative, and is on monthly preventatives. Her adoption fee is $375 and covers the cost of core vaccinations, along with the cost of her care while in foster. We require that all adopters, regardless of the dogs age, are committed to ongoing training and socialization as part of responsible ownership. To apply to adopt Devan, visit www.beaglesandbentleys.org/adopt.

Note: Sending a Petfinder inquiry is not submitting an application. We require a completed adoption application to move forward with adoption.

Beagles and Bentleys has an across-the-board evaluative process that we apply to every application we review that prioritizes our animals in need. We conduct a vet reference check (all resident dogs must be altered/up to date on dhpp/rabies and monthly preventatives, and cats must be altered and up to date on rabies) and a virtual home visit call where we discuss the adoption process and see your home.
