Delilah's Story

The MexiMutt Project is an initiative of Born Again Pit Bull Rescue. Millions of dogs live on the streets in Mexico, and our rescue works at the source through spay/neuter programs, rescue, medical care, and adoption into loving homes.
- Since 2019, we have matched over 500 dogs with loving homes & spayed/neutered over 3,500 dogs in Mexico.
- All of our dogs are currently in foster care in Guadalajara, Mexico. They are listed in Oregon for adoption purposes because our rescue is based there.
- Once an adoption is approved, the dog will fly to Portland, Oregon (PDX). Most dogs arrive within 2-4 weeks after approval, depending on flight availability.

INTERESTED IN ADOPTING? Please fill out an application at: www.bapbr.org/apply
(We are unable to respond to adoption inquiries submitted through Petfinder)

**************************
Meet DELILAH
- AGE: 2 years old (estimated)
- WEIGHT: 10 lbs
- GOOD WITH KIDS who know to respect a dog's space and belongings.
- HOUSEBROKEN? Not 100% yet. As rescues that lived outdoors, they'll need some time to adjust. Most adapt within 1-2 weeks of consistent training.
- The breed listed is our best guess (since they're rescues!)

Delilah's family didn't take her with them. When the people who owned the house she lived in moved out, they left her behind with her mate and their puppies, no food, no water, just an empty house and whatever the dogs could scrape by on. It was the neighbors who noticed, who started leaving out food and water day after day until someone could finally get all of them out of there.

By the time she was rescued, Delilah was scared, sad, and severely malnourished, covered in ticks and fleas. She was also carrying a loss that doesn't show up neatly in an intake form: she'd had a second litter of puppies before rescue, and none of them survived. Recovery from all of that took real time.

"She's a completely different dog now," says her foster, Susana. "She plays, she runs, she has confidence. She's got friends now, dogs she plays with all the time." That change didn't happen overnight. It came one meal, one gentle hand, one safe night at a time, and what's left is a dog who has clearly decided to trust the world again.

These days, Delilah holds her own with any playmate, matching herself against dogs twice her size and never once backing down from a game. Watch her closely and you'll catch her signature look: when something catches her attention, her ears lift just so and give her what Susana calls a little flequillo, or bangs. It's a small, funny detail on a dog who has more than earned the right to be a little bit of a character.

Delilah gets along well with other dogs of any size and is tolerant of cats. She hasn't had the chance yet to show us how she does with kids, so a slow, supervised introduction is the way to go there. She'd do best with an active playmate her own size and a family that can consistently show up with love and care, so that she can know that she's finally, truly safe. She's already proven she can lose almost everything and rebuild anyway. Could you be the one who makes sure she never has to again?

*************************
Ready to apply?
