Deimos's Story

This handsome fella is Deimos, who lives with his current family in NE Washington near Metaline Falls, a very remote, rural part of the state. He's looking for a new home.

He’ll be 4 years old on April 16, is not yet neutered and needs his vaccines boosted. He gets along well with his Jack Russell terrier brother (also unneutered) and a cat, and was fine with the chickens his owner had for a while, and until recently "simply the best dog ever." The owner explains: He grew up with my 11 yo granddaughter and they were great friends. But a few months ago, he changed his behavior towards her totally. He does not want her anywhere near him anymore and he makes efforts to avoid her. If she comes near him, he will give a low growl and get up and go into his crate. It is very clear he is telling her to stay away from her. Unfortunately because of her immaturity, she just does not truly understand what she has done and and no matter how many times she is told, she just will not just stay away from him and leave him alone. He was absolutely the best dog we have ever had until this behavior started."

Deimos has had little socialization off the property – since they are in a very remote, rural area, the dogs don’t get to interact with new people or other dogs, so we don’t know how he’ll be with other dogs or with meeting new people. He is reportedly very well behaved, listens well, and is eager to please. He’s had no official obedience lessons, just practical family training. On the rare occasion when he’s had to be on leash, he’s done well. He likes to ride in a sidebyside with his owner but has rarely ridden in a car.

As you can see, Deimos is somewhat of an unknown, having lived a very sheltered life in a remote area. He’s inside and part of the family, crate trained, but they live in a small home and keeping the granddaughter away from him has been a challenge. They feel rehoming is best so the behavior doesn't escalate and keep the child safe.

If interested in meeting Deimos, please fill out our adoption application: https://forms.spdrdogs.org/Adoption/

Washington State – no interstate transports. Idaho, Montana, B.C., and Oregon adopters will also be considered.
