Dee's Story

Meet Dee!

Meet this handsome boy, Dee! He is approximately 4–5 months old and currently weighs around 20–25 lbs. We can’t say for certain how big he will be once fully grown, but based on his current age and size, we suspect he will be a larger dog, likely 50+ lbs. Without a DNA test, we cannot confirm Dee’s breed. His medical records list him as a Shepherd mix, although we wouldn’t be surprised if there were some Golden Retriever, Lab, or another breed mixed in as well. Breed labels are always our best guess, especially with young rescue dogs.

Dee was found wandering with his siblings and was eventually picked up by animal control. Sadly, no one ever came to claim them, and Dee has been waiting at the shelter since September for someone to give him a chance. Despite his uncertain beginning, Dee is a happy young pup with so much potential. At his age, he is still learning about the world and will need a patient and dedicated family committed to helping him transition from shelter life into a home. His adopter should be prepared to continue working on potty training, basic obedience, socialization, household manners, and establishing a consistent routine.

Like most puppies his age, Dee has a playful personality and plenty of youthful energy. He would thrive with a family willing to keep him both physically and mentally stimulated while continuing to teach him everything he needs to know to become a well-rounded adult dog. Dee loves other dogs and would likely do wonderfully with a canine companion who can play with him and potentially help show him the ropes. Another dog is not required, though, and he could certainly thrive as the only dog with a family committed to giving him plenty of attention and socialization.

He has not been formally tested with cats, so we cannot guarantee feline compatibility. However, given his young age, a home with a cat may be considered with an adopter who understands the importance of slow, controlled introductions and proper management. Dee has also had limited exposure to children while living in the shelter. Because he is a growing puppy who may eventually be 50+ lbs and is still learning his manners, older, respectful children who are comfortable around the energy of a young dog may be the best fit.

We would love to see Dee in a home with access to a yard, ideally one that is securely fenced, where he has room to safely play and explore. A fenced yard is not a requirement, however. Apartments and condos may also be considered on a case-by-case basis as long as his adopter is prepared to consistently meet his exercise, training, and enrichment needs.

Most importantly, Dee needs someone who understands that adopting a puppy means making a commitment not only to the adorable puppy he is today, but also to the adult dog he will become. With patience, structure, training, and plenty of love, we think this sweet boy has everything he needs to become an incredible lifelong companion.

The shelter where Dee is currently staying is severely overcrowded, and dogs like him face uncertain futures simply because there is not enough space. Dee has already spent months of his puppyhood waiting. We would love to see him leave shelter life behind and begin growing up where he belongs—in a loving home of his own.

Health:
Dee is neutered, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, and on monthly preventatives. He is currently too young for heartworm testing.

Important Information:
All of our dogs, including Dee, are currently located in Texas and will be transported to their adopters once the adoption is finalized. Transportation is included in the adoption fee. Please note that adopters will not be able to meet Dee in person prior to committing, as transport occurs after the adoption has been finalized.

Breed labels are educated guesses based on appearance and available shelter or medical records. We encourage adopters to focus on each dog's individual personality, needs, and long-term compatibility rather than breed alone.

MA License #479
