Dax

Dax has not had an easy time, with repeat stays in the animal shelter. He was one of 4 dogs belonging to a homeless couple living in their car. They tied the dogs up outside. Several times, he became a stray, with animal control or members of the public bringing him to the shelter. This time, Dax did not go back to his former owners. The shelter finally allowed his release to a rescue. We saw him and took him.

Dax is a beagle mix, estimated at 2 years old and weighing about 24 pounds. He is tri-colored with beagle coloring, but mainly black and white. His white has some speckled black spots. While he definitely seems part beagle, we are not sure what his mix may be. It may be Australian cattle dog or Jack Russell Terrier, but he has the beagle size and body.

This guy has done well out of the shelter. Perhaps from his background and shelter stays, Dax did not respond well to unfamiliar people. Out of the shelter, however, he has done well with other people (including kids) and dogs. He should be given the chance for him to become familiar -- trust us, it's worth it! And it's easier as he decompresses from the shelter and his former life.

Once comfortable, Dax is a sweet and playful guy, with a bit of energy. He likes pets, belly rubs, being held, and snuggling. Without an invitation, he slept next to his foster on the bed right away. Dax does well on a leash and riding in the car. He will run and play with other dogs in the yard. At times, Dax has something to say and will tell you, including if he wants attention or thinks you should share your food.

We are glad that we have Dax and are seeing his progress. He has been neutered, gotten his shots, and has a microchip for his new person. Dax seeks a stable forever home, where he can just be a dog and a loving friend.
If interested in Dax, please contact Eva at 916-803-4935 or norcalbeagles@gmail.com.
