Darwin

Darwin was found as a stray with another dog tied up to a fence in Brooklyn. Both were brought to the New York Animal Care Centers - the New York Municipal Shelter.<br/><br/>At the shelter he was so shut down and fearful he wouldn't make eye contact with anyone. When the volunteers came to walk the dogs, he would retreat to the back of his kennel trying to make himself invisible.<br/><br/>The shelter gets full so quickly and Darwin needed a savior. We were able to save the other dog with a foster and were so happy when another foster stepped up to save Darwin. He just needs a moment to take things in<br/> Friendly with other dogs and always ready to play<br/> Very affectionate with his people and constantly hoping for an extra ear scratch<br/> Curious about everything<br/> Highly treat motivated and easy to train<br/> Loves being close to his humans. Hes perfectly content napping nearby even when hes not the center of attention<br/> Currently in his chewing phase, he needs plenty of chew toys and treats to keep him busy and out of trouble<br/><br/><br/>Activity Level<br/> Loves his morning and evening walks and looks forward to them every day<br/> A fast, athletic runner who needs space to stretch his legs and burn off energy<br/> A backyard is highly recommended — without one, hell turn your living room into his zoomie track<br/> Has a strong prey drive, so a fenced yard is advised; hes not an escape artist and doesnt dig or climb<br/> Was initially very fearful of car rides and refused to get in, but with gentle practice hes improving and becoming more comfortable. He just needs continued positive exposure<br/>Training & Behavior<br/> Currently in the middle of his house training and making steady progress<br/> Can get jumpy and a bit mouthy when hes excited but very normal puppy behavior<br/> Walks nicely on leash, but with his strong prey drive he will pull when he spots wildlife<br/> Thrives with patience, consistency, and gentle guidance as he continues to learn and mature<br/><br/> <br/>Other Requirements<br/> A fenced yard is strongly recommended due to his high prey drive and energetic nature<br/> Loves playing with other dogs of all sizes, and that social play should be encouraged<br/> Can become nervous in new environments, but once he realizes everything is safe, he relaxes.
