Darcie Boxer & Terrier Mix Mokena, IL

Introducing Darcie!

She is an adorable young 3 year old terrier mix that is ready to find her forever home. She is a friendly girl and likes to be around people, but can be shy meeting new people since she has been at the rescue for so long. Darcie gets along with dogs her size or bigger, but is scared of small dogs and does not like cats!

She is an entertaining girl that is active and playful but also calm and a couch potato at times. She is a great mix of both because she's willing to go on long walks but has a laid back personality at home. Darcie loves going on trips with our shelter staff to the forest preserve and to explore! She loves her toys so much and we catch her throwing toys to herself in our play yard all the time! Darcie would do well with older children as long as they are gentle and have been around dogs before. Darcie is well-deserving of a loving family to call her own.

Darcie came to us from an animal control facility on 4/27/21. She DOES NOT have a bite history. She has been overlooked at no fault of her own for a long time. She would do best in a home with no young children as she has not been around any since arriving to our rescue. She does spend weekends at a foster home occasionally with kids as young as 12 and does well. The foster mentions that in the home she is exceptionally calm and very well behaved... she definitely appreciates her weekend staycations.

The NAWS Dog Adoption Program operates as a rescue versus a shelter. We believe in matching the right dog with the appropriate family based on each specific dog or family's needs. To achieve this, we believe in spending the appropriate amount of time with each family to allow for enough interaction time with potential adopters. This cannot be achieved if people stop by unexpectedly to meet our dogs.
