Darby's Story

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Darby is a Chihuahua/Terrier Mix and has the cutest short legs..

Darby is about 15 pounds and 2 years old. You may notice his leg and feet look different. When he came back to us at 5 months of age, right away we noticed he was walking odd on his front right leg, he was taken to one of our vets and was told his growth plate was damaged and we were referred to one of the other clinics we use. There they did a more in depth xray and again referred out. Darby ended up at a specialty surgery center. There they did very specialized xrays he was diagnosis with Right thoracic limb angular deformity with secondary elbow incongruity (short ulna syndrome). He was 6 months old when he under went a Right dynamic ulnar osteotomy with IM pin placement. Needless to say it was a long recovery for him and he couldn't be around the other dogs while he recovered. He eventually ended up with a 2nd surgery to have the pin removed.

The surgery was to help his muscle keep his leg forward when he walked. But, when not walking his leg would still be sideways. As he grew it became more bowed and his foot also turned. He does walk with a limp. We decided that he needed to be seen again about 7 months after his surgery and he is where he should be.

Darby can not jump up or down from anything. But he is good at using those back legs when you have a treat or he wants some loving. In the morning when he first gets up he runs outside to do his business, if he gets distracted he has to be called to go outside. In his foster home he gets along with all the dogs, from his size up to the 73 pound dog. Actually he thinks he's the boss and sometimes he will run up to them and say his piece, they just ignore him. He thinks he is a big dog and has a lot to say. He loves his bed and can be found under his blanket. He also likes to lay in your lap and watch TV, well he falls asleep. He is crate trained, current on core vaccines, micro chipped and neutered.

Darby looks to have some terrier, and the other mix we can only guess that it may be a little Dachshund or Corgi, since his brother Buster also had his short legs and big ears. He is neutered, current on his basic vaccines and chipped. Adoption fee $175.00

Adoption application can be found at: www.missmaggiemays,org at the bottom of the page click on Forms/Applications there is no need to log in.
