DARBY 's Story

Meet Darby, your new shadow, snuggle buddy, and biggest fan đŸ’›

This sweet 6-year-old spayed female poodle–Shih Tzu mix has been through more than her fair share—but you’d never know it from her loving, gentle spirit. She came to us from the Maricopa County Animal Care and Control after being surrendered with an old, untreated jaw fracture. While the injury couldn’t be repaired, it hasn’t slowed her down one bit.

She happily eats soft food, enjoys treats, and even entertains herself with toys and a good chew on a Nylabone. Mealtime looks a little different for her—she may occasionally regurgitate a small amount of liquid (2-3 times a day), likely from swallowing extra air due to her jaw, and as a result would do best in a home without carpet. The good news is it’s very manageable: she does well with an elevated food dish and takes an inexpensive motility medication to help keep things moving comfortably.

What truly defines her is her heart. She is incredibly affectionate and forms a deep bond with her person. She tolerates other dogs and cats, but if she had her way, she’d be your one and only—your constant companion, your bed buddy, your loyal little shadow. She just loves being close and doesn’t like to share that special connection and will growl if another dog tries to interfere and also if the other dog wants to share her bed

She’s also had a recent dental cleaning, so she’s fresh, healthy, and ready for her next chapter. Darby is fostering in Tempe so meet and greets will need to occur at or near her foster home

If you’re looking for a devoted, gentle, slightly quirky little dog who will adore you completely, she may be the perfect fit. She doesn’t need perfection—just someone who will love her exactly as she is. Apply HERE >>> https://form.jotform.com/cherishedtails/dog-application

As a 100% foster-based organization, we do not have a physical facility and foster homes are spread out across Tucson and the greater Southern Arizona area. To set up a meet and greet with one of our dogs, please fill out an adoption application located on our website (www.cherishedtails.com). Applications will be considered in the order they are received. We will review your application to determine if the dog is a good fit for your family, and If we believe the animal would be a good match and is ready for adoption, we will contact you. Please be patient, as our volunteers and fosters have full-time jobs and busy families. We consider foster-to-adopt situations as well. Complete an adoption application on our website: www.cherishedtails.com Or at: Dog Application Step 2 - Home Check A home check is required as part of our adoption process to ensure the well-being and safety of all our rescue animals.
