Dante Hound & Labrador Retriever Mix Santa Monica, CA

Dante is a rescue from Bakersfield, CA. He was found in front of a fenced property waiting in front of a gate in a malnurished condition. When our volunteers approached Dante, he seemed so friendly and acted as a family raised dog. A man in a nearby property came to our volunteers and told them that Dante has been sitting in front of the gate for 3 days waiting for his owner who left him outside the property and closed the gate. Immediately, the rescue took position of Dante and left a notice on the gate of the fenced property. A week later, the owner of Dante called the rescue and said that he can no longer take care of him and the reason he was absent and left Dante outside for 3 days is that he (the owner of Dante) felt a lot of pain in his abdomen and had to go to the hospital which he ended up unexpectedly staying for 3 days after which he got characterized with cancer. In the absence of his owner, Dante Jumped the fence and tried to search for food. Then he could not jump the fence back to house. So, he stayed in front of the gate.

From day #1 at the rescue, Dante started following a strict nutrition protocol in order to gain the necessary weight he needed. Over a span of three months, Dante received deworming medication, and flea and tick control medication along with full shots of vaccines along with their boosters. Finally, he got his rabies shot and was operated for Neuter.

Behavioral wise, Dante is a social dog and he is so sweet. He gets along with big and small breeds of dogs. He is good with children and good with strangers. He could lay with you on a couch watching TV or go with you on a long walk. He enjoys belly rubs and he is super playful.
