Danny's Story

I'm Danny, and I will be two in March! I am tiny for a lurcher, at only 44 pounds. I have one rule, and that is: NO KITTIES!

Kennel staff say I am very loving and sweet, but in need of training in part because of my age. My social skills are highly developed, and I am friendly and respectful of other dogs. (I was evaluated by Canine Behaviorist Kyle Adams.)

I am excellent on a leash, with a low prey drive (despite being no-cats), and no fear of loud noises. I can do stairs. I am very sweet and attentive, and love attention.

I do have some crate anxiety, so I cannot be crated for very long, and get distressed while crated. I would be a good candidate for a doggie door leading to the fenced yard, or perhaps doggie daycare during th day!

Right now, the volunteers say I should *probably* be in home with no small kids, because I am still learning and may resource guard my food or toys.

I am in a kennel at the moment, but being in a foster home (or an adopter's home!) will be the best way for me to learn more skills and manners, when I can practice being an indoor pet. If you think you might be a good fit for me, please submit an application to foster or adopt me!

* * * * *

Adopters must meet the following requirements:
- Live in Indiana (Western Ohio, Northern Kentucky, or Eastern Illinois may be eligible depending on location and volunteer availability to conduct a home visit)
- Primary applicant(s) at least 25 years old
- Live in a home (no dorms, apartments, etc. - sorry!)
- Fenced yard (no invisible fences)
- Willingness to keep dog on a leash whenever not in a fenced yard

We look forward to working with you to find your new best friend! Prison Greyhounds's Adoption Policy
Adopters must meet the following requirements: - Live in Indiana (Ohio, Kentucky, or Illinois may be eligible depending on location and volunteer availability to conduct a home visit) - Primary applicant(s) at least 25 years old - Live in a home (no dorms, apartments, etc.) - Fenced yard (no invisible fences) - Willingness to keep dog on a leash whenever not in a fenced yard Adopters must watch a short video explaining care of their new dog, as well as read the Prison Greyhounds adoption handbook. Next, an online application should be completed on our website. Our board will review your initial application, and if we believe you would be a good match for a greyhound or lurcher, we will reach out to request that you submit the $25 application fee. Please do not submit the application fee until it is requested, as we cannot refund this fee, and we do not want to disappoint anyone. After the application has been reviewed and fee paid, an adoption coordinator will reach out to conduct a phone call and review some basics of greyhound/lurcher care as well as answer any questions you may have. A home visit will be conducted, and we will work together with your family to determine if the dog you're interested in is the right fit for your household or if another dog might be best. After adoption, your adoption coordinator will check in with you to ensure your dog is acclimating to the change. If you have any challenges, we are happy to help provide advice! We look forward to working with you to find your new best friend! To begin the process, visit: https://prisongreyhounds.org/adoption/

Our Mission
Prison Greyhounds finds appropriate homes for greyhounds and greyhound lurchers. This includes retired track racers, field racers, blood donors, and the “farm” greyhounds that never raced.
