Curly's Story
Male | 2.5 years old | Whippet Mix | 37 pounds | Medium energy | Best second dog | Some exposure with cats | Okay with kids | Looking for a home outside the city | Fostered in St. Catharines | From Barbados | A goofy sweetheart that can be nervous and is building confidence

This is CURLY! Described as a goofy, silly, sweetheart by his foster family, CURLY has been busy working on building up his confidence around being with people. If you don’t mind us bragging, he’s doing amazing! In his foster’s words, CURLY is the “goodest boy with the nicest manners,” and is an actual “angel on earth.“ Awh!

He is a great sleeper, eater (he’ll show you his happy tap dancing!), and napper. We could go on… and, you know what? We will! He’s recently made a great adjustment from living in foster care in the Kawarthas and being outside frequently to using his crate more often, which doesn’t seem to faze him. Ofc, CURLY still needs both physical and mental stimulation. He loves running like the wind. What might surprise you about him, though? Well, for his current foster, it’s the fact that when inside, he’s more relaxed and lower energy than they might have expected! Before being ready for walks or car outings, you can often expect him to want to enjoy time at home. Otherwise, CURLY’s day involves a mix of exploration, doggy playtime, naps (he’s a cozy king) and running.

He’s living with a scruff sister and would be his happiest self as a second dog in his new home with another well-balanced scruff. He likes to play and gains confidence from learning from other dogs. Play wrestling with his scruff sister is one of his faves activities, but he’s also content to play on his own with chew toys. Watch out! He may just shred some stuffies if left to his own devices.

This scruff’s confidence has the potential to continue growing in an environment grounded in routine and support. Those who have experience working with nervous dogs are encouraged to apply. CURLY can be very nervous outside the home and has boundaries on how he likes to receive affection. With time, he begins to relax and trust his humans. We should also mention that he’s met children and done fine around them but maybe older kids are better suited for frequent time around him as he likes a chiller household. He’s briefly met cats and did fine around them with guidance!

His current fosters have put in the time to really set him up to succeed in his next move. Is he the guy for you? Note that CURLY would do best outside of the downtown core of the city. Interested? Apply to adopt!

CURLY is available for informal meetups. Send us an email stating you’d like to set up a M&G and give us some insight into why you think you’re a good fit for him! Please email adoption@saveourscruff.org to set this up. Please note that his current location is St. Catherines and his fosters can be flexible on where to meet.

Check him out on his fosters instagram @rescued.annie where you see him and her SOS alumni live life together!
