Our Mission
Save Our Scruff is dedicated to ending the cycle of overpopulation, abandonment, and neglect by supporting dogs in desperate need and giving them the chance to thrive in safe, loving homes. We rescue dogs from remote Northern Canadian communities, overcrowded Ontario shelters, and under-resourced regions in Mexico, Costa Rica, Barbados, and beyond, providing care, rehabilitation, and advocacy. With a commitment to protection, education, and leadership in dog welfare, we are making the dream of a forever home a reality for more dogs than ever before.
Adoption Policy
SOS’s regular adoption application process involves the following steps:
1. Getting to know you: Fill out the adoption application. One of our adoption coordinators will reach out to you! If your application moves forward, we will check vet (if applicable) and personal references.
2. Interview: One of our scruff counsellors will reach out to you to schedule an interview.
3. Meet & greet: You and all members of your home will have the chance to meet the dog (potentially virtually). This is a great opportunity to ask the foster any questions.
4. The official stuff: You will be sent the adoption contract to review and sign. This is also when you pay the adoption fee.
5. Adoption trial: Each adoption will have a trial period before the adoption is finalized. See how your scruff settles into your home and routine.
6. The good part: After the adoption trial, you will receive your Adoption Certificate.
