Cupcake's Story
Cupcake is a sweet pup that came into rescue from an AL shelter. Prior to living in the shelter, we believe she was a neglected yard dog as she and her mom came into the shelter very shy and covered in ticks. She is a Beagle mix- possibly Beagle/Australian Shepherd and is estimated to be around 2 years old. She looks bigger in pictures but weighs around 35 lbs. She's here in Maine, in foster, and her foster says: "Cupcake takes awhile to come out of her shell, but she is so sweet and goofy when she gets comfortable. She loves to play with other dogs, loves food, treats, and pets on the floor. She is completely housebroken and has not had a single accident in the house. She doesn’t have any desire to get on furniture. She walks very nicely on leash, but needs work on recall… having strong hound characteristics, her nose takes over when she’s outside. She needs to be in a seatbelt harness in the car as she likes to stick her head out the window a little too far...... She loves physical activity and loves to swim. She is terrified of the crate, so I have been leaving her out when I’m gone. She settles easily and has not been destructive when left out. She has a very vocal play style. She had been overly excited about the cats… barks at them and tries to get them to play. She does want to chase them. She might do best in a home without cats, but I have no concerns about their safety. I suspect they will coexist easily when boundaries are developed and they get used to each other. She is very food motivated and will do great with training if given the proper time and attention. She loves the kids that come to visit her… she is so sweet and goofy. She will be an amazing pet and would likely do best in a home with another confident dog to show her the ropes."<br/><br/>If you think you might be interested in adopting Cupcake or just want to get pre-approved to adopt through us, please fill out an application on our website.
