Cullen's Story

Cullen is living in a foster home. Please submit an application from our website and email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to see if you're a match!

Scroll through his pictures to see his cute videos!

Introducing Cullen, a rare and exceptional specimen of the prized Bobble-Head Pittie breed. (Ok, we made that up, but what *is* rare is a dog whose head weighs more than his entire body!) This meatball is pretty much the cutest thing we've ever seen.

When we were at Chicago Animal Care and Control, we were walking down the aisles visiting all the dogs, and couldn't help stop at a specific kennel. While all the other dogs were barking, here sat this grey hippo, not barking or whining, just loudly thumping his tail on his bed. Yes, even in a kennel full of barking dogs, he was still wagging his tail so fast and so hard that you could hear it. We melted as his tail thumped even harder as we told him what a good boy he was. So stinking cute.

We asked our volunteer friends about him and they had nothing but great things to say: "Wiggly, silly, and the biggest ham around." "A total love." "A very good boy." "An absolute angel." "The kind of dog who is just easy to love."

We have loved having him here at Heartland. He loves everyone he meets - dog and human. One of our volunteers fell in love with him, and took him home to foster. She has a family with two teens, and another dog. We have been able to learn so much about Cullen thanks to his fosters!

His foster mom writes, "I don't know how he hasn't been adopted yet! He's just such a great dog. So fun, silly, lovey, easy. He really just chills out most of the time.

He's been a delightful, polite and grateful guest. He tries his best to do what is expected of him, and once he settles in and feels at ease, he stops following you around and chills out. He likes to play, but then he finds a comfy dog bed (or a bed with a teenager oversleeping) and dozes off for a few hours.

He hasn't tried to climb on the furniture, and hasn't chewed anything. But, if there are shoes laying near the front door when someone walks in, he gets really excited and walks around with it, tail wagging a mile-a-minute (but will drop the shoe when asked!). So it helps to leave some toys around, and he really really loves his pink elephant stuffy!

He's had zero accidents in the house. He'll go to bed around 9pm then go outside the next day to pee around 7am, sleeping through the night on his dog bed in our room or at the foot of the kids' beds.

Our medium-size lab/pit mix is picky with other dogs, but she likes Cullen and they play well together. He likes to run and chase, but also likes to wrestle. He'd do well with a dog that can hold their own. Their playing and rough-housing is outside in the yard, then inside they just hang out.

He takes treats gently, and is treat-motivated for training. He knows sit and paw! We're working on "stay" (he doesn't understand why he can't just be next to you all the time!).

Cullen is a GREAT guy! He will do best with adopters who will take the time to teach him that he is okay being alone, and that they will come back for him. He is such a special boy and we know he is worth it!"

Cullen's adoption fee has been generously sponsored as part of our promotion spotlighting dogs rescued from our city shelter, Chicago Animal Care and Control. This animal is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
