Creedence's Story
Creedence is what joy would look like if it grew long ears, four legs, and wrapped itself in a soft, cream-colored coat.
Yesterday at the shelter, one of our wonderful supporters donated what can only be described as The Cadillac of Squeaky Toys -- an alligator head attached to approximately five feet of squeakers. Not one squeaker. Not two squeakers. Roughly twenty squeakers lined up side-by-side like a tiny rubber orchestra prepared to perform "Ode to Chaos."
I had other chores to do.
But then I saw Creedence out in the yard, and suddenly those chores felt a lot less important than conducting a highly scientific experiment called "What Happens If Creedence Gets The Greatest Toy Ever Invented?"
He did not disappoint.
The look on his face when he realized that toy was HIS. Absolute disbelief. You could practically hear his brain short-circuiting.
And then came the celebration.
Creedence became a one-dog Broadway production. He trampled that toy like a stallion fighting a snake in an old Western. He flung it into the air. Wrestled it. Rolled with it. Galloped around the yard with the determination of a boy flying a kite during the windiest day in human history.
And the beautiful thing is, when the circus performance ends, Creedence turns right back into the sweetest, cuddliest soul imaginable. One of his favorite activities is story time, when a delightful British lady comes to read to him. He sits beside her soaking up every word like the attentive gentleman he is.
Creedence can be a little shy at first. He's pure goodness, but the world hasn't always been good to him. You can see that in the careful way he approaches new things. But once he feels safe? Once he realizes kindness is real and meant for him?
You get this magnificent explosion of trust and silliness and love.
Creedence is 5 years old, healthy, wonderful with other dogs, and ready for a family who will treasure both sides of him -- the softhearted cuddle bug and the airborne squeaky-toy acrobat.
Come meet him at Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road in Hampton, VA. Visiting hours are 9am-noon every day, including weekends and holidays.
Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!

PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.
