Courtesy listing- Ruby's Story

Courtesy listing

Meet Ruby, a beautiful four-year-old, full-size Australian Shepherd and purebred Blue Merle with lots of personality, energy, and love to give.

Ruby is an active girl who loves being outdoors, going for car rides, visiting the beach, camping, hiking, and playing with her favorite ball or Frisbee. Like a true Aussie, she loves having a job to do, even if that job is simply a good game of fetch! She would love having a home with a fenced yard to run and play all the games.

When the day winds down, Ruby is just as happy relaxing at home with her people. She loves lounging on the couch or patio and being close to the humans she trusts. She is fully house trained and would like a home where she is welcomed to sleep inside and, if she's lucky, maybe even claim a spot on the sofa. She does not enjoy being crated.

Ruby is a sensitive dog who does best with people who understand and respect canine body language and personal space. We are looking for a patient home that understands the needs of a sensitive, working-breed dog and can help Ruby continue to build confidence. Ruby would do best in a home with older children (12+) who can respect a sensitive dog's space. With time and patience, Ruby will be a deeply loyal and loving companion.

Ruby has previously nipped a child after her warning signals and requests for space were missed, so her new family should be comfortable recognizing and respecting her boundaries. We want to be completely transparent about this so we can find the right environment for her to feel safe and successful.

Ruby can also be reactive while on leash, but she responds very well to positive, treat-based training on walks. Her family has been actively working with her, and she has made great progress. She would benefit from a new owner who is willing to continue that training and give her consistency, structure, and plenty of physical and mental enrichment.

Ruby should not live with cats. She may do well with a calm, more submissive dog after a thoughtful introduction. An active owner, a securely fenced yard, and plenty of opportunities to exercise and use that smart Aussie brain would be ideal.

Ruby's family loves her very much, and this decision has not been made lightly. Due to unforeseen lifestyle changes, they are looking for a home that is a better long-term fit for her needs. The goal is to find Ruby a patient, committed home where she can feel secure, continue building confidence, and enjoy all the adventures, games of fetch, couch naps, and companionship she loves.

Please contact
Lauren Spencer at 541-790-9218.
