Meet CORA
In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you!
Are you looking for a best friend? A sweet dog, that is adorable, charming and a little silly too? If you are, I am your girl! My name is Cora. I will be 2 years old on July 1st, weigh a bit over 7 pounds and have beautiful, soft and silky fur. Everyone thinks I am cute, as I always wag my tail and like to roll over for a belly rub. When I first came to my foster home, I was not accustomed to a harness or leash. So I was a little afraid of them. Now I love to put them on because it means I get to go outside! I love to go for walks in the neighborhood with my foster mom. I like to stop and watch the people and the bunnies and squirrels and am alert to new activities. I am learning to just watch, and NOT chase the bunnies and squirrels! I did not have much previous exposure to people and things in various surroundings, and I have a lot to learn. I adapt well though, if you give me time and patience. My foster mom is also happy that I am learning about going potty outside!
Cora is very sweet, with a little tomboy thrown in. She is a bit shy at first, but as soon as she knows you all is well and she is very happy. Cora will need to continue to learn basic dog obedience and gain confidence, and she would really benefit from formal obedience/socialization training. Cora loves to please though, and is a smart girl that learns very quickly! If you are willing to give this little girl time and love, she will be your best friend forever. Cora could be happy in a home with another small, calm dog or as an only dog. If there is not another companion dog in the family Cora needs a “human” companion who will be with her much of the day. She needs a quiet, calm household with adults, and possibly one older child. Cora will be adopted to a family within the Twin Cities area, no more than 40 miles from the Burnsville area.
Cora is a very special girl who wants a perfect home and family. In order to ensure that, here are the requirements that her foster mom requires for her new family:
• Because Cora is not yet two years old and Shih Tzus can often live 17-18 years, applications from senior citizens will not be considered. Cora must be placed with an age appropriate family who can fully care for her for her entire life.
• Cora would like an active family that is experienced with dogs and will continue to help her with training and socialization, and will hopefully enroll in formal training classes. This requires lots of dedicated time! She has much to learn, not just from obedience training, but also exposure to new, safe experiences. Plus she needs lots of time for ear scratches and belly rubs.
• Cora can be in a home with another confident, small dog who will help her learn by being a role model and friend. However, she would also do well as an only dog as long as she has opportunities to learn to socialize with other dogs on walks or other family activities. A family that works from home or is home most of the day would be ideal for Cora.
• Cora is not fully trained for going potty outside. Her new family needs to understand this and must take her out every couple hours during the day. Cora does sleep all night, though, without having to go potty outside. She will definitely want to sleep in bed with her new family as she loves to cuddle!
• Cora’s new family should live within 40 miles of the south metro area and will commit to attending the Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each year in September.
We understand there are quite a few requirements for Cora’s new family. But if you meet the requirements, you will have abundant joy with this beautiful girl.
Cora is spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. Her adoption fee is $420.00 plus $31.61 in sales tax for a total of $451.61.
To meet Cora, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see her and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at Chuck and Don’s at 6821 York Avenue South, Edina near Southdale.
