Copper's Story

Hi, I'm Copper! I'm a 7 month old happy boy. Back in January, I was surrendered to a shelter (not RCHS) because I couldn't walk due to injuries to both my back legs - I had bilateral tibial tuberosity avulsion fractures. A tibial tuberosity avulsion fracture is a serious orthopedic injury where the bony prominence on the front of the tibia (where the patellar tendon attaches) is pulled away. RCHS was called to save me from euthanasia and YAY for me, they did!! I’ve since had the necessary surgery and have done all my post-op work to get back to normal activities!

I spend most of my time these days napping on the couch and laying on the porch in the sun, or going on walks around Manhattan. I love a good game of tug (especially if you have rope toys!) and de-stuffing toys is my specialty (my record to de-stuff is 30-minutes)!

I do really well in my kennel for 4+ hours at a time and only on the rare occasion do I have an accident in the house.

Foster mom tells me I'm really smart, because I learn all my tricks pretty fast. So far I know: sit, down, stay, kennel, shake, and spin! I love going for car rides and meeting new people! I get along really well with pretty much any dog I meet and love to play tug and ball with my friends.

I've learned the best things in life are bananas, walks, and naps on the couch in a cozy blanket with my foster mom!

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out our application here: http://www.rchsks.org/our-animals/adopt-a-pet/adopting-a-dog. By filling out the application you are not committing yourself to adopting; it's a screening process that must be completed before you meet the dog. Please do this BEFORE calling. Our voicemail is only checked periodically and you can reach us much faster via dog-coordinators@rchsks.org. Thank you!
