Cooper - In Foster's Story
Meet Cooper. Cooper would like to speak to the manager of your household immediately.

Cooper is an approximately 9-year-old, 8-pound Chihuahua mix with the confidence of a 100-pound guard dog and absolutely no understanding of his actual size.

He was an owner surrender to JPAWS with severe luxating patellas. Of course we had to step in and pull him into our rescue to help his patellas! His left knee had been out for so long that it couldn't be repaired, but Cooper adapted like a champ. When his right knee started luxating too, Southshore Animal Hospital repaired it, and Cooper basically woke up from surgery and went right back to supervising the backyard.

Could we amputate the left leg? Sure. Does Cooper care? Not even a little. He runs, plays, patrols the fence, chases his much larger Golden Retriever foster brother, and has never once let his leg slow him down.

Cooper gets along well with other dogs... most of the time. If everyone is outside, life is good. If everyone is sharing treats, even better. But if he's on a bed, blanket, pillow, laundry basket full of clothes, or literally anything soft, he suddenly remembers he's a Chihuahua and would appreciate everyone respecting his personal space.

His favorite place in the world is under the blankets next to his person. He's an excellent sleeper, never makes a peep overnight, and if he wants to be picked up, he'll politely paw at your ankles until you give in. Resistance is usually futile.

Cooper recently had a dental cleaning and is now officially ready for his forever home.

Now for one tiny disclaimer. Cooper went through what his foster family lovingly called his "Electrician Phase." He managed to chew an AC window unit cord, a power strip, and an Apple Watch charger. Thankfully, he seems to have retired from that career after his dental, but we'd still recommend keeping cords picked up... just in case he decides to update his resume.

If you're looking for a funny, fearless little dog with a huge personality, endless confidence, and championship-level cuddle skills, Cooper is ready to interview you for the position of "his human."

If you would like to meet Cooper, please send a completed application to our Programs Director and his foster mom to Rachel@jeffersonspca.org.

Adoption fee includes vaccines, spay/neuter surgery, microchip and a heartworm test. Any dog that tests positive for heartworms can be treated through our Fix-A-Heart Program. Adopter has to buy a year supply of heartworm prevention before treatment begins.

Please note: this application is view-only in Dropbox and must be downloaded to your device to be completed. You may fill it out using a PDF editing program or print it and complete it by hand. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/ahiajf6e6i0ox2hdl09jk/JSPCA-Application_2.0-Newest-Updates.pdf?rlkey=be9he1julh02etikl021k9plk&dl=0

All adoptions subject to approval.
