Meet Colin

Hi everyone, I’m Colin! I was rescued from a horrible neglect situation in Birmingham, AL. Some kind people saw me in a backyard, chained and starving, and got help for me. Animal Control took me to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society, and then my sweet foster mom Lisa came to get me! She has been taking care of me for over a month, and I have made so much progress.

When I first got to Lisa’s home, I was very scared. I would run and hide whenever she or her husband tried to touch me. I was skinny, sick, itchy, and had worms in my heart and belly. But my foster home gave me lots of love, patience, and helped me get better both inside and out. I received medicine for my parasites and started my heartworm treatment! I have gained weight and I feel so much happier and healthier now.

In just a few weeks I have gone from hiding in a corner to following Lisa everywhere. Lisa LOVES me and wants to make sure I go to a home that will be kind and gentle with me. She knows that I have been through a lot, and I need someone who understands me.

I am a 2.5-year-old, 60-pound, neutered pittie mix. I have all my shots and I am almost done with my heartworm treatment. I am great with other dogs and even cats! I haven’t met any little kids yet. I am big and playful, so I would do better with kids 12 and older so I don’t knock anyone down. I am an excellent leash walker, and I am potty trained. I am still learning to like my crate and can be a bit of an escape artist. Lisa got me a special strong crate that she said she will give to my new family if they need it. I can be a bit shy of strangers at first. I will growl a little, but my tail is still wagging. I just need some time to trust you. But if you give me a treat, I will be your best friend! I love to be called “good boy” and I will wiggle my whole butt like a windmill when you give me affirmations.

I am being fostered in Birmingham, AL but can be transported to other states for the right adopter. If you think I’m the goodest boy for you, please fill out an application today! *Must be 21 or older to apply.
