Coffee Jane's Story
At 14 years old, Coffee Jane's world was turned upside down when she was surrendered to the Downey Shelter by her family. While we don't know what her earlier life was like, she has some sensitivities - especially around certain types of touch. Because of this, Coffee Jane needs a patient family who respects her boundaries and allows trust to grow. Thankfully, she has been in this type of environment for the past three months with one of our dedicate longtime fosters. Here's a recent update that highlights just how far she's come:

"Coffee Jane is a wonderful girl who wants to be loved and love back. Some of the things we needed to work on take time. First up was potty training. We had many accidents for a bit, but we have worked out a solid routine of her going outside. She has caught on to the concept that pee pads are for her use when I am gone. I take her for a walk before I leave the house, and then upon return, I take her out immediately. She gets an A+!

Another thing was allowing me to put the slip lead over her head to go outside, and now she is pretty cool with it. She gets an A for this, too. Coffee Jane has also relaxed enough to where I am able to briefly pick her up to put her in the car or the bathtub. I can pet her and touch her body without her getting ruffled. But she still has boundaries, and I have to respect that.

Coffee Jane has a very good appetite and loves treats. She takes them quite gently and takes meds quite easily mixed in her food. I have discovered that she is protective of her food, so she has her own space when she eats. When she's done eating, I pick up her bowl, and all is well.

Coffee Jane has always been kind and polite to my dog and cat so that has never been an issue. She loves car rides and enjoys going for walks. She can get a little reactive towards other dogs, but she is easily redirected. She is quiet at home and does not bark, which makes her a very good neighbor.

Coffee Jane needs a very special family or person who will be patient and kind but will lead her with a firm hand. With lots of love, time and patience, and some correction, Coffee Jane will blossom into the companion that I know she wants to be."

To meet Coffee Jane, please email: placement@frostedfacesfoundation.org
