Coconut's Story

Coconut is like the cotton candy of dogs - sweet and delicious. This fluffolicious boy came from a rural shelter where he was found on the lam dragging his tie out behind him. Apparently Coconut decided that he deserved more than a 24/7 tie out and took it upon himself to find a better situation. For now, he's found love and appreciation in his foster home but he is on the look out for his very own one and only.

Coconut is about 10 months old and has the zen energy of someone older. Rather than the puppy vibe, this gorgeous boy has left the frenetic puppy moves behind and is a dream in the house after he's had his romp with his canine buds. After breakfast he can be found lying on the dog bed beside his foster mum or finding a ray of sunshine on the back deck. He has not been crated in his foster because he is dependable - other than his habit of chewing his leash while travelling to his sniffy fields in the morning. At night he finds a spot near his people before counting sheep and sleeping until until everyone gets up in the morning.

Coconut is a sensitive boy who is gentle to his core. He can take a moment to wag at new people and would do very well with another dog in his home to play with and to follow their lead. He walks well on leash and gains confidence from his two biggest foster bros when he goes out and about around town. When his bros greet someone, Coconut is happy to take their lead. Adults, kids, other dogs.... everyone is a friend.

The gorgeous ruff around his head and thick coat that he's rocking are the result of living outside all winter and Coconut is 100% not doing that ever again. The hip winter look will most likely disappear because Coconut will be living it up inside with love, food and soft beds - no need for that kind of coat with central heating.

This furry puff is living with multiple dogs and a rugby team of cats and he is a purrfect gentleman with everyone. This guy radiates compatibility and can get along with anyone who breathes. He has no prey drive on his offleash jaunts and likes to rumble with the others and check the smell trails made the night before. He is a reliable alarmist when he sees or hears things that he wants you to know about which means that you can ditch your current alarm system and put that money towards treats and toys for your new love muffin.

Coconut's best life is one where his gentle, loving nature is embraced and he is celebrated by people who commit and appreciate their family members. He would like his peeps to be home more than not as he would be wasted home alone. Coconut would thrive with another kind and playful dog friend in a rural setting where things match his slower pace. It's unfathomable that whoever owned this boy before didn't move heaven and earth to find him once they noticed he was gone. Coconut is a very special being looking for a very special family.

Coconut is neutered, dewormed, microchipped and vaccinated (DAPP and rabies). His adoption fee is $850.

If you are interested in being part of the Coconut sweepstakes fill out an adoption application below (copy the link below into your browser).

Adoption process includes application, virtual home visit, phone interview, reference check, meet & greet, adoption contract and $850 adoption fee.

***Fill out the ADOPTION APPLICATION at:
https://signup.ifaw.org/en-ca/northern-dogs-adoption-application-form

Northern Dogs Project's Adoption Policy
Northern dogs are not a breed but a lifestyle. Until recently most dogs were free roaming but communities are now making changes to how they want to coexist with dogs and many are now tying. Dogs are all identified by Animal Care and are adopted to families in the south as family members only. Northern dogs are smart, experienced, dog social, have been handled by kids, feel safe with women, and are slightly unsure of men at first. Dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated (core vaccines DAPP and rabies), microchipped and dewormed.
