COCOA's Story

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.
Please note that we can not guarantee the age, expected weight or breed of any animal. What we provide is our best estimates based on our experience and the information provided by the our medical partners. If breed and eventual size are of great importance we suggest looking into a breed specific rescue or adopting a full grown animal.

Unless otherwise noted, ALL animals are fostered and available for adoption on Long Island, NY.

Meet Cocoa: Stage 12 Clinger. Zero Personal Space. ALL THE LOVE.

Ever wish you had a dog who would follow you to the bathroom, supervise every snack, and consider being more than three inches away from you a personal tragedy? Congratulations. Meet Cocoa.

This 2-year-old, 25-pound sweetheart is a certified 12/10 Velcro dog. Seriously, if she had opposable thumbs, she'd probably duct-tape herself to your leg.

She LOVES her people and wants to be wherever you are, doing whatever you're doing. Personal space? She's heard of it. She just doesn't see the point.

Cocoa came from a hoarding situation with 30 other dogs, and she's still learning that the world can be a safe and wonderful place. She hasn't had the easiest start, so she'll need a patient, understanding person who gives her the time and space to settle in and feel comfortable. She's worth that extra patience, and the bond you build with her will be something really special.

Cocoa is fantastic with other dogs, has medium energy, and loves to play! She's also crate trained and housebroken, so she's already got some important life skills checked off her list.

Cocoa can be jumpy and exuberant when excited, and new situations can feel overwhelming for her. A home without young children is best, along with someone who understands that trust isn't something you can rush. She needs a person who will celebrate the little victories, let her find her feet at her own pace, and show her through kindness and consistency that she's finally safe.

And fair warning: once Cocoa decides you're her person, you may never go to the bathroom alone again

. Seriously, if she could duct-tape herself to you, she absolutely would.

Cocoa has so much love to give. She just needs someone willing to give her the patience, reassurance, and understanding to let that love bloom. Could you be the person who shows her how wonderful life can be?

Apply to adopt Cocoa at
lcarescue.org
!
