Coco Smith #7346's Story

Meet Coco — a classic Golden girl with a smart mind and a loyal heart.

Coco is everything people love about Golden Retrievers — sweet, intelligent, and deeply connected to her people. At 8–9 years old, and a bit overweight, she's past the puppy chaos but still has plenty of life, love, and personality to give.

Originally surrendered to a trusted rescue friend and Coco was then brought safely into GRRAND's care to find the home she truly deserves. We are happy to report that Coco is in a foster home and we are told:

"Coco is a (not so) little shadow who follows her foster mom around the house, even if the stairs are tricky with her being 113 pounds.... UPDATE! Coco has lost 12lbs! Coco handles the storms well and is only a bit extra clingy. She loves her new toy and carries it everywhere with her, but doesn't love walks. She'll sit down when she decides she's done! (update: Coco also has been getting her steps in on the stairs. While she's still not big on walks, she's getting around much better... Foster mom has already seen improvement!) Coco is a huge fan of affection of any kind, like being brushed. Coco did get a bath, and that went well (she just had to turn off the water first to coax Coco in, and she is not a fan of a nail trim). She is super cuddly and loves to be close to her people, and is a bit difficult to convince when there's no space to cuddle (because she's a big dog!). She really just wants to be close and greets Rachel with a toy every day when she gets home from work. Coco has shown herself to be very patient and good with kids; the neighbor's very young children have lots of energetic affection to offer and she loves that too! Her fosters say Coco couldn't be more perfect. She's great about pottying outside and never barks or chews anything she shouldn't. Coco also loves to greet people when they return home, but she doesn't like watching people leave."

Coco's Highlights:

Spayed female Golden Retriever
Housebroken & crate trained
Knows basic commands — including how to shake/paw
Walks nicely on a leash
Smart girl — can even open doors!

Things to Know:

Can have food/treat-related guarding, so structure is important
May get irritated by small dogs that bark excessively
Has some mild storm anxiety

Coco is a thinking dog — observant, aware, and incredibly smart. She will thrive in a home that understands her, respects her boundaries, and appreciates the depth that comes with a mature dog.

She's not just looking for a home — she's looking for her person.

In Summary: Coco is a classic Golden Retriever — loyal, smart, and well-established in a home environment. Coco is housebroken, knows basic commands (including offering her paw), and walks nicely on leash. She does have some manageable quirks, including food-related guarding (especially with treats), sensitivity to excessive barking from smaller dogs, and storm anxiety. She's also clever enough to open doors, so she'll benefit from a secure setup. Overall, Coco would do best in a structured, experienced home that understands her needs and can appreciate a smart, seasoned companion.

She loves to ride in a car. She walks well on a leash, but will pull somewhat strongly if she sees a human or an animal that she wants to connect with. Coco is calm, affectionate, and loving. She would like nothing more than to be near you.

If you're ready for a loyal, steady companion who still has so much to give, Coco is waiting.
