COCO GIRL's Story

We were told she's a Yorkie mix, and her sweet little face definitely hints at some Cavalier King Charles Spaniel charm.
Coco Girl came to us through no fault of her own.

Her previous owner experienced health issues and was no longer able to care for her. She's one of our special "underdogs"—the kind of dog who needs a little extra patience and understanding, but whose love is well worth the effort.

She rides beautifully in the car, walks nicely on a leash, and knows several commands, including sit, stay, no, treat, and cookie. She loves playing with her toys, and once she feels safe with you, you'll be rewarded with happy little tail wags and a loyal companion who wants nothing more than to be by your side.

Like many dogs who have experienced change, Coco Girl can be shy and cautious when meeting new people. She needs time and patience to build trust.

When she feels uncomfortable or overwhelmed, she has shown warning behaviors such as growling, snapping, and acting as though she may bite. While she has not bitten anyone at ARF, these behaviors tell us she needs an owner who understands canine body language and will respect her boundaries while helping her build confidence through positive reinforcement.

We believe Coco learned over time that these behaviors caused people to back away, so she continues to use them when she's feeling uncertain. With consistency, patience, and a calm environment, she has the potential to continue making progress.

Once you've earned her trust, Coco Girl is incredibly affectionate and devoted. She forms strong bonds with her people and will happily become your best friend.

Because Coco Girl lived as the only dog in her previous home, she prefers not to share her toys or food with other pets. She would do best as the only dog in the home. She would thrive with an individual, couple, or adult family looking for a loving companion to enjoy leisurely walks, relaxing on the couch, and spending quality time together.

Coco Girl was previously house-trained and could comfortably hold her potty routine for long periods. As with any dog moving into a new home, she'll need a little time to adjust to a new environment and establish a consistent routine.

Due to her resource guarding and her need for a calm, predictable environment, we recommend a home without children. To help ensure the best match, approved applicants will be invited to meet Coco Girl before adoption.

If you're looking for a faithful little companion and are willing to give her the patience and understanding she deserves, Coco Girl may be the perfect addition to your family. Her forever home is out there—could it be yours?

Interested in giving Coco Girl the loving forever home she deserves?
