COCO - COURTESY LISTING's Story

Coco is a beautiful 2-year-old purebred, spayed Border Collie weighing approximately 35 pounds. She is everything people love about border collies high IQ, quick and eager to learn, energetic, very affectionate, athletic, eager to please, quick to bond, fun and loyal, and always ready for her next adventure. Like many Border Collies, Coco has a strong work ethic and thrives when she has outlets for her energy. Her workaholic personality is evident in her exuberance for playtime, learning new skills, and engaging with her people.

Cocos world changed recently after the loss of her beloved dad. He purchased Coco as a puppy and they shared a special bond. But now that dad is gone, mom is looking to rehome this exceptional girl with a family that can give her the active lifestyle she deserves. Due to dads illness, Coco had limited opportunities for experiences beyond home. Walks in the neighborhood, beside her dads scooter, and pushing her basketball around the backyard became her outlets for socialization and exercise. In fact, if there was a soccer league for dogs, Coco would be a star! Shes incredible with her ball.

This girl now wants the world to become her oyster!!! She is ripe and thirsty for new, exciting and challenging opportunities. Coco is currently staying with a family friend who has found her to be incredibly smart and adaptable. Coco is embracing new experiences with enthusiasm. In just the first couple of days, she learned to fetch, walk politely on a leash, come when called, sit on command, and wait at doorways. And, she has discovered swimming to be the absolute bomb! Well...second to the basketball.

Coco is a very affectionate and social girl and welcomes people with excitement. She has had limited interaction with children; but, based on her loving personality, she would likely be a good match in a home with older children. She is not toy or food aggressive, does not exhibit separation anxiety, hasnt shown any noise sensitivities, does not chase cars or golf carts. She has good recall and is spending time off-leash in a low traffic neighborhood; she is overall very well-mannered; she is high energy and can be focused and intense when playing/working but she also enjoys calm one-on-one time with her person. Shes just an overall delight.

Like many dogs who missed out on early socialization opportunities with dogs, Coco can be uncertain around dogs. The good news is that she is already making progress in foster care as she learns that other dogs can be friends rather than something to worry about. However, at this time, Coco would do best as an only dog (or in a home with another dog she feels comfortable with) while her new owner continues to help her develop her doggie social skills and confidence. So, at this point she is not a dog park prospect.

So, heres the bottom line. Coco will require a home that can provide ample daily exercise, stimulation, and engagement. Homes should have a large, fenced yard where she can stretch her legs, play, and burn off some of that trademark Border Collie energy. A swimming pool, or other water access, would be icing on the cake. But most importantly, Coco will need a confident, experience and active owner who understands the breed and is excited to continue introducing her to the world, give her the doggie socialization she needs and the companionship she yearns for. Given the opportunity, this bright, loving girl is guaranteed to blossom into an amazing partner for most anything you want to do alongside her dog sports, hiking, jogging, etc. If youre searching for a loyal companion with endless energy and potential, Coco may be the perfect match for you.

Coco resides in Washington NC and is courtesy listed for adoption by the Atlantic Region Central Border Collie Rescue.
