Coco Chanel - In Foster's Story

Meet Coco Chanel

Coco Chanel is a small, affectionate Maltese who has already proven how resilient she is. She arrived at the shelter as a stray at the end of September, and during her intake exam the shelter veterinarian discovered multiple mammary tumors. Coco needed immediate medical care, including a spay and two major surgeries to remove the mammary chains.

Her first surgery went smoothly, but after the second procedure Coco experienced significant bruising and required hospitalization for monitoring, cold wraps, and hydrotherapy. She handled everything like a champ and was discharged on 12/15/25. She is now recovering comfortably in foster care and doing well.

Coco is estimated to be around 7 years old, though she still loves to play, run, and chase toys in the yard. It is very possible she was aged older due to neglect rather than her true energy level. She absolutely adores toys and is rarely seen without one in her mouth. Because she can be a little bossy about toys, she would do best with a dog who either ignores toys or does not mind sharing. She is currently living peacefully with a large group of dogs, though she may give a quick correction if larger dogs get too much in her space.

Coco would also be very happy as an only dog. She is extremely people-oriented and wants to be held as much as possible. She enjoys being close to her humans and will happily settle nearby when allowed. She did well sleeping in a kennel overnight and only stirred when she heard other dogs moving around.

Coco has been friendly with children in a calm setting, though following surgery she was a bit nippy, likely due to pain and discomfort. Because of this, a home with respectful, dog-savvy kids or adults only would be best. She has shown curiosity toward cats our office cats and barks so we aren't sure that's a sign she'd be good. Our office cats are not fans of dogs so hard to test with them.

Coco Chanel has been through a lot, yet she remains loving, playful, and eager for affection. She is looking for a home that will continue her recovery, respect her boundaries, and spoil her the way she deserves. She did test negative for heartworms as well.

Adoption fee includes vaccines, spay/neuter surgery, microchip and a heartworm test. Any dog that tests positive for heartworms can be treated through our Fix-A-Heart Program. Adopter has to buy a year supply of heartworm prevention before treatment begins.

Please note: this application is view-only in Dropbox and must be downloaded to your device to be completed.
