COCO's Story

Coco likes a simple life.

UPDATE FROM FOSTER: He’s settling really well, can stay alone for several hours, has started playing, is very affectionate once comfortable, and has a really sweet, snuggly side!!! 🐾💕

Coco is a small dog with a clear preference for keeping life simple. He is affectionate, observant, and happiest in a calm, predictable environment with his person close by.

He appears to be an Italian Greyhound / Chihuahua mix (often called a Greyhuahua), with long legs and folded rose-shaped ears.

Coco is very intelligent and quick to learn. He picks up routines fast, reads patterns well, and does best with structure and consistency. He does not require constant activity, but he does need gentle engagement and clarity in his day-to-day life. As he settles, a lighter side begins to show, with short bursts of play, curiosity, and interest in his surroundings.

He forms a strong bond with one or two people and prefers to stay nearby. He is not clingy and he will choose a spot beside you and remain there. He is best suited to a quiet home where someone is present most of the time. He is not a fit for a busy, rotating household.

Coco has never lived with other animals and we recommend that he be the one and only. He spent most of his life in a backyard and has not had a lot of leash walking experience, but got the “hang of it” pretty quickly. He can react by barking at some dogs he spots on walks but with redirection and distraction he is improving daily.

With new people, Coco can be cautious and may bark at first. This is hesitation, not reactivity. With reassurance and treats, he warms up quickly and settles.
He is currently uneasy in the car and will need patience and gradual, positive exposure to build confidence.

Coco is 8 years old, weighs 17 lbs, is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and housetrained. Coco can stay alone for a few hours, he will whine or bark for a few minutes and then settles quickly.

BONUS: His foster can support the transition and remains available for guidance, including occasional dog sitting.

If you have the time, the love and the dedication for Coco please fill out an application: gerdysrescue.org/adoption-form/

No direct message inquiries, please.
We adopt to Montreal and surrounding areas only.
We will only respond to applicants who match the requirements.
