A Sato is a Puerto Rican street dog, and Clara’s cautious nature reflects her background. She is doing a beautiful job adjusting, just at her own pace.<br/><br/>Clara can be nervous in new environments and when meeting new people. When out and about, she tends to stay close and may try to retreat or hide if she feels overwhelmed, and she will pull away from unfamiliar people trying to pet her. That said, she handles outings better than you might expect. She walks calmly through stores and will quietly settle under the table at restaurants, taking everything in while staying relaxed in her own way.<br/><br/>At home, once she feels comfortable, her personality really starts to shine. She gets especially excited when kids are around and clearly adores them. She loves toys and will happily entertain herself and play once she feels safe. She has also discovered a love for chasing a laser pointer, which brings out her playful side. Just be warned she has a bit of a mischievous streak and has a soft spot for socks and shoes.<br/><br/>Clara is crate trained and sleeps quietly through the night. She is also potty trained and doing very well for her age. She is a smart girl who is continuing to gain confidence every day.<br/><br/>She would do best in a patient home that understands she is still building confidence and won’t rush her with new people or situations. A calmer environment or a home with another confident dog could really help her continue to come out of her shell.<br/><br/>Clara is a sweet, gentle soul who just needs a little time and understanding to truly blossom into an incredibly loving and playful companion.<br/><br/>Clara is being fostered in Pikesville, MD.<br/><br/>PLEASE READ:<br/><br/>Any dog that is house or potty trained will still need patience in a new home with new people and a new schedule.
