DOB: January 2025)<br/> Gender: Male<br/> Weight: 38.6 lbs (17.5 kg) <br/> Height: 65 cm (paws to top of my head); 55 cm (paws to shoulders)<br/> Length: 75 cm (head to tail)<br/> Neck: 35 cm<br/> Chest: 60 cm<br/> Current Location: MEXICO CITY<br/><br/><br/>RESCUE STORY - I was rescued in June of 2025 from a residential complex in Querétaro, Mexico. Some residents of the complex provided me with temporary shelter before my rescuer took me in for a veterinary check-up to give me the full care I needed. I was quickly adopted following my rescue; however, through no fault of my own, I was returned as my adoptive family later learned they were only allowed one pup in their apartment. Since then, I've been waiting for my second chance at finding my forever home and family. I've spent the past year in my foster home and am ready to start my new adventure in Canada!<br/><br/>TEMPERAMENT - My foster family describes me as a social, affectionate, and intelligent boy. I really enjoy being around people have shown that I am gentle, playful and loving during my interactions with humans and dogs alike. Although my confidence has improved over time, I can be a little shy and cautious at first, especially if someone approaches me too quickly. Generally, though, I approach new situations with curiosity and a positive attitude. With slow and careful introductions that allow me time and space to feel safe and secure, I quickly settle in and enjoy the company of new friends. I will need a patient adopter who advocates for my space and allows me time to get comfortable with new people and situations. But don't get me wrong - I have proven that with time and patience, I can adapt to new situations and am an extremely loving companion!<br/><br/>NOTE: It is important to consider "breed need" when adopting. Australian Cattle Dogs are incredibly intelligent, loyal, and driven working dogs. They thrive with adopters who can provide plenty of daily physical exercise, mental enrichment, and consistent training. This breed loves having a job to do, whether that's hiking, dog sports, advanced training, or puzzle-solving activities. They are best suited to active homes that understand herding breeds and are committed to helping them channel their energy in positive ways. With the right outlet and guidance, Australian Cattle Dogs make devoted, fun-loving companions who form incredibly strong bonds with their people.<br/><br/>ENERGY LEVEL – Medium / High. Although I am calm and enjoy quiet time, I really love to play! I will need an adopter who has time to give me mental and physical stimulation so that I'm fulfilled! Remember, I am a working breed boy and will need sufficient exercise and fulfillment in order to be the best version of myself :)<br/><br/>GETS ALONG WITH:<br/><br/><br/> Kids – Unknown, however my rescuer says I'm very affectionate and gentle with people of all sizes. <br/><br/> <br/> NOTE: As with any working breed, we recommend exercising extra caution when introducing dogs to young children. Herding breeds can be highly energetic, easily overstimulated, and may instinctively nip or herd during play. We recommend close supervision at all times, teaching children how to interact respectfully with dogs, and providing the dog with a quiet space to decompress. With appropriate management, training, and clear boundaries, many working breed dogs thrive in family homes. <br/> <br/> <br/> Dogs – Yes! I currently live with other pups in my foster home and get along very well with all of them! I love playing and interacting with the other dogs, but I also know when it's time to chill out and just relax. I'm comfortable eating around my foster siblings and have shown no signs of resource guarding of my food or toys. Check out this video of me and my pal sharing some snacks! And this video of me meeting a new doggo!<br/> Cats – Yes, I also live with a cat but we don't have any videos of our interactions yet! I have shown curiosity and friendliness when interacting with the kitty without displaying any aggression. My gentle and calm demeanour has made it easy for me and the kitty to respectfully share our space. <br/> <br/> If an applicant for me has cats, we can request videos for you!<br/> <br/> <br/> PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I'm not too sure how I'll react around squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise.<br/><br/><br/>TRAINING:<br/><br/><br/> Leash skills – Pretty good. My foster parents say I am a very good boy on leash! I am calm during walks and seldom bark. Since I am a little cautious in new environments, I will need an adopter who is happy to work with me on my leash manners while adjusting to my new surroundings. A well-fitted harness and some dedicated leash training will help set me up for success! Watch videos of me walking on a leash here and here. <br/> House trained – Work in progress. Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn housetraining in my new home <br/><br/><br/>Please Note: WCP highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives. <br/><br/>HEALTH NOTES:<br/><br/><br/> I am neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records.<br/> I will be tested for Heartworm etc. before flying to Canada.<br/> NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits.
