Chyla's Story

Behind the Bark Is a Dog Who Needs a Chance.

First impressions aren't always the whole story.

Hi, I'm Chyla, a 2-year-old American Bully mix weighing 37 pounds. With my beautiful tri-colored coat, I look like a miniature Rottweiler and hound rolled into one. I'm the perfect medium size, big enough for adventures and small enough to fit right in at home.

I recently came to Stafford County Animal Shelter after my previous family no longer had the time to care for me. Imagine waking up one day and suddenly everything you know is gone. Your family, your home, your routine... replaced by unfamiliar people, barking dogs, and a place that never seems to quiet down.

I'll be honest, I'm scared.

When people walk by my kennel, I bark and growl. It's not because I'm a bad dog. It's because I'm overwhelmed and trying to cope with a world that changed overnight.

The people who knew me best told the shelter that I'm house-trained, crate-trained, and ride well in the car. Those are wonderful qualities that don't disappear just because I'm having a hard time in the shelter.

I'm looking for someone who understands that dogs don't come with an "on" switch. Every dog needs time to settle into a new environment, learn a new routine, and build trust. With patience, kindness, and consistency, I know I'll become the loyal companion I've always been.

I've never lived with other animals before, so if you have a dog at home, come for a meet-and-greet to make sure we're a good fit.

Adoption Fee: $45

Stafford County Animal Shelter
26 Frosty Lane
Stafford, VA 22554
540-658-7387

Adoption Hours:
Monday-Friday: 11:00 a.m. 5:30 p.m.
Saturday: 9:30 a.m. 4:00 p.m.

We welcome walk-in adoptions.
