Chomper in CO's Story
The adoption process starts with an Online Adoption Application you can find at 'https://www.adoptaboston.com/adoption-application.
Phone interviews do not take place til after an approved application is on file and we have a possible match for your home

My name is Chomper. I am 9 years old and weigh 13 pounds. I need a new home because after my previous owners had a child, they felt I had become more of an interruption than part of the family. I am currently being fostered in Denver, Colorado.

I only have one eye, but I don’t let that stop me from loving my people.
I am actually an incredibly affectionate, loyal, funny little dog underneath all my big feelings. I LOVE being close to my humans. I want to cuddle, follow you from room to room, and be involved in everything you’re doing. My foster family says I have a huge heart and desperately want connection and safety.

I will be up front with you that I have a nervous tick and have been put on prozac which I will be on for the rest of my life as it works for me. And somewhere along the way, my nervous system got a little stuck in survival mode. Sometimes when I become overstimulated, excited, frustrated, or confused, I get stuck in a behavioral loop.......
• becoming obsessive with toys or humping blankets/beds
• receiving treats or food and immediately searching frantically for more
• high-energy excitement triggered from other dogs excitement
• confusing social interactions where I become overwhelmed
• may obsessively search for things, bark, pace, or get stuck in repetitive behaviors once I become overstimulated.

The good news? I’m already showing a lot of improvement now that I’ve settled into my foster home and have more structure and routine. I’m very predictable once you learn my patterns, and I respond beautifully to calm energy, consistency, and gentle redirection. My foster mom has discovered that speaking softly, petting, holding me and helping me disengage early works much better than correction or chaos.

I love:
• cuddling with my humans
• being someone’s shadow
• treats (maybe a little TOO much)
• soft blankets
• calm affection
• feeling included
• short sniffy walks

I need:
• a patient adopter in a calm environment, structure and routine
• someone home often
• continued behavioral support
• someone who understands that I’m anxious, not “bad”

Here’s a little more about me:
Housetrained? Yes
Leash-trained? Improving
Rides well in car? Yes
Good with other dogs? Yes, dogs with respectful boundaries and lower energy. I am not a playmate
Good with cats? Not yet tested
Good with young children? Not recommended
Good with strangers? Yes! I am very friendly but can get overstimulated
Shy or confident? Depends on my stress level
Barks? When I get stuck in a loop or when someone is at the door
Apartment qualified? No
Any Special Needs or Health Issues? See above
Adoption Fee? $ 250

The adoption process starts with an Online Adoption Application you can find at ''https://www.adoptaboston.com/adoption-application.

All our dogs are spayed/neutered (if six months and older), up to date on rabies and distemper, heartworm tested, and microchipped. Other medical needs diagnosed while in foster care are also treated prior to adoption.

MABTR requires a fenced in area from families who own their home, however we DO adopt to apartment complexes and communities where fences are not permitted due to leases and covenants. In these cases a leash law must be enforced. We do not accept invisible fencing.

MABTR only adopts to families residing in NE, CO, MO, KS, IA, WY, SD, ND, ID, UT, MT, MN, and NW AR due to the lack of volunteer support in other states, no exception even if you are willing to drive.

If you are Interested in Adoption please complete our online adoption application at 'https://www.adoptaboston.com/adoption-application

Petfinder's form is NOT our application.
