Meet CHLOE

Chloe’s History

On February 13th, I met a sweet homeless lady panhandling outside of Lowe’s. I had just finished walking several dogs at the local animal shelter. She had a dog with her who looked healthy but dirty. I had a little sandwich bag of dog food, so I stopped to give it to her.

She was appreciative and spoke well. When I told her I had just come from the local shelter, her eyes lit up. She said she had seven puppies and their dog parents in the woods where she lived. She said that she needed help to find them homes. The dog with her at Lowe’s was Gracie and 11 years old. She wanted to keep her because they had been through so many things together.

We talked for a long time, and she shared her story. 2-3 years before, she had been living in a house in Stockbridge. It had burnt down, and she had not had any insurance. She lost everything but Gracie, her only dog at the time.

She went from place to place, hotel to hotel, with her mom and a boyfriend. At some point, one of her friends offered her a puppy/dog because she couldn’t walk. He had left the poor baby outside when it was super cold, and her legs had stiffened up. That was Chloe! After she warmed up in the hotel room and could walk again, he wanted Chloe back. The homeless lady told him “no” and that he was not a good dog parent. Chloe was saved by this sweet homeless lady.

Eventually, hotels had used up most of the money she had. Her mom moved in with a niece and the homeless lady and her boyfriend moved into the woods in Griffin, GA. They had a tent and various supplies. At some point, someone gave her a male puppy.

Then the tornadoes happened last January 2023. A tree ACTUALLY FELL ON TOP of the homeless lady and there were many injuries. She had so many broken bones. Six ribs were broken along with seven back bones. Her right hip and right shoulder were broken. A finger on her left hand was broken. Both of her lungs had collapsed. There was even a tree limb stuck two inches into her skull! At some point during all of this trauma, she had a stroke as well. Oh, the tree knocked out several of her front teeth too. She was only 43 years old.

She was later told that it took the emergency crews over an hour to free her from the tree. Everyone thought she would die. She was rushed to the ICU in Macon and stayed there for 14 days. When she woke up, she found out what had happened and couldn’t believe she was alive. She knew then that God had saved her for a reason.

She couldn’t walk at that time but, if you didn’t know about this traumatic event, you wouldn’t be able to tell it had ever happened except for her teeth, scars, and photos. She legitimately had a tree fall on her and live to tell about it.

As soon as she was able, she went to the local shelter to get her three dogs that her boyfriend had put there. She was pretty mad that he had done that because she loved her fur babies so much.

During the last year, Chloe and the homeless lady’s male dog, Little Boy (who is BIG and beautiful) got together and made seven happy and healthy puppies. They were born on December 3, 2023. They were running all around in the woods without a care in the world.

I’m happy to report that all seven puppies were saved by a wonderful woman who runs a small rescue in Massachusetts. She has been rescuing dogs from Spalding County, GA for the last 15 years. I am honored to know her. She sponsored Chloe’s spay which as well took place on February 23, 2024.

It’s not yet the final chapter for Chloe. It’s really just the beginning! She will be fostered by another amazing lady I met many years ago when she brought a starving dog back to life. Not Chloe. She works with Gwinnett Humane Society now and Chloe will be in the best of hands. She will be inside a home instead of out in the woods. She won’t be cold at night shivering. She will sleep in a cozy and clean bed. She will have toys to chew on instead of dirty blankets. Chloe will be living the dream except she yearns for a family of her own. Won’t you come meet her?! No one has a story like this and it’s ALL TRUE!
