Chief's Story

Meet Chief!

At around 10 weeks old and roughly 15 pounds, this little guy is ready for his next chapter. Chief had a rough start—he was found dumped on the side of the road at just four weeks old—but you’d never know it from his confidence. He’s an all-black mix with a sharp little white patch on his chest, and while we don't know his exact breed mix, he’s got a ton of personality packed into a small frame.

Chief is definitely the fun one in the room. He’s an early riser who packs his days with bursts of energy, backyard sprints, and deep puppy naps. He isn’t a needy lap dog; when play time is over, he’s totally content crashing on his own bed nearby with a chew toy. Come nighttime, he trots right into his crate and sleeps straight through until morning without any drama.

He’s also wicked smart. He already figured out how to grab the potty bells in his mouth and give them a shake when he wants out (though he's still a baby, so he needs a watchful eye when he's excited). On a leash, he alternates between sniffing every single leaf and hitting a full sprint. In the car, he likes to voice his backseat opinions, so he does best tucked safely into a travel crate. He's very food-motivated, which makes training a breeze—he’s already learning to take treats gently, keep his paws on the floor when greeting people, and trade stolen socks for real toys.

Right now, Chief lives with kids and three other dogs, including a senior pup who's blind. He caught on quick to reading the room and giving the older dog space. We haven't tested him with cats yet.

Chief will thrive with someone who loves puppy training, stays active, and wants a smart, independent partner in crime. A fenced yard to burn off energy and a confident dog buddy to show him the ropes would be ideal!

Our standard adoption fee is $465. We offer a $15 discount for adopters who pay by cash or check, making the adoption fee $450.

The adoption fee includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at one of our participating veterinarians, age-appropriate core vaccinations, fecal test, deworming, current on flea and tick preventative, and microchip.

To ensure the best match for both our dogs and adopters, we require a fully completed adoption application, a phone interview, and a meet-and-greet with the entire household. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed.

Submitting an application does not guarantee adoption and does not obligate you to adopt; it simply allows us to begin the review process.

To request an application or for additional details, please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org

Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed.

Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to approve or decline any adoption application based on the best interest of the dog.
