Chicken Nugget's Story
Meet Chicken Nugget!

This little guy came to SKE for foster and rehoming. He is absolutely precious, loves to go on walkies, and really wants a lap to snuggle up on in his new forever home.

ABOUT CHICKEN NUGGET

Chicken Nugget is a 7-month-old, blonde Dachshund. He is absolutely precious, loves to go on walkies, and really wants a lap to snuggle up on in his new forever home!

He arrived at SKE with severe fear reactivity (he was so scared of people that his whole body would start trembling when you walked in the room, and he'd begin to bark & growl if you approached him too quickly). He has never bitten anyone, but we were told he would yelp and/or urinate out of fear sometimes.

He's made HUGE improvements since being here - he is more confident every day! His ideal home is comfortable with gentle & kind handling and will either have a good understanding of fear reactivity or will be comfortable working with a trainer to continue his progress.

He would likely be happy as an only dog, but also enjoys playing with the other small & medium dogs here at SKE. In his previous home, he was very afraid of their large dog, so we have not tried having him with any large dogs yet, and don't plan to do so until he gains more confidence.

He has done a few introductions with some of our youth volunteers and has done very well - he isn't any more afraid of kids than he is of adults. He can go to a home with kids and would likely be a great family dog, as long as the whole family is on board with kind, gentle handling.

HOW TO ADOPT

Adopting from SKE is easy as 1-2-3:

1. Adopters need to fill out the Online Adoption Application to start the adoption process: https://form.jotform.com/stephkequestrian/dog-adoption

2. Once approved, adopters need to book & prepay with a trainer/behaviorist (we can recommend one if needed).

Rescue dogs often come with some emotional baggage, and Chicken Nugget has already had trauma that created his fear reactivity. To ensure his new home is set up for success, we ask adopters to book & prepay for a consult package or puppy class with an experienced trainer/behaviorist.

3. Pay the adoption fee - we have two options for Chicken Nugget's adoption fee:

- Full adoption fee: $500, which includes his neuter, puppy vaccines, and deworming.

- Reduced adoption fee: $300, which includes deworming and general puppy vaccines (except rabies). Since Chicken Nugget has not yet been neutered, we give the option for adopters to book & prepay for his neuter through their own vet, then they can take him home after his surgery appointment - if you elect to do this option, then you get a reduced adoption fee.

If you have any questions or want to discuss Chicken Nugget further, please contact SKE via email at stephkequestrian@gmail.com or by call/text at 417-763-1925.

Note: We get a high volume of calls & messages here at the rescue, but we will get back to you as soon as we can. For a quicker response, please keep in mind that we prioritize communications with applicants who have already submitted their Online Adoption Application: https://form.jotform.com/stephkequestrian/dog-adoption

Thank you, we look forward to hearing from you & helping Chicken Nugget find his forever home!
