Cheese's Story
**ACCEPTING FOSTER-TO-ADOPT APPLICATIONS — RESCUE INQUIRIES WELCOME**

FOSTER-TO-ADOPT / RESCUE APPLICATIONS WELCOME

Cheese is an approximately 4-year-old female Great Dane who is slowly becoming more comfortable with the people and surroundings she's getting to know. She came into our care following an owner surrender involving several Great Danes who had been living in poor conditions. Since arriving, Cheese has made encouraging progress, both physically and emotionally.

Cheese has been treated for hookworms and is continuing to receive nutritional support as she works toward a healthy weight for her frame. She's filling out nicely, and we're pleased with the changes we're seeing.

She's a shy girl who needs time to adjust to unfamiliar people, environments, and experiences. Cheese is most comfortable outdoors and enjoys quiet company, particularly when someone sits with her in her kennel. She's recently begun accepting treats, has discovered the comfort of lounging on a couch, and is starting to show us a goofy side to her personality.

Cheese becomes noticeably more animated when she sees other dogs, especially the Great Danes she arrived with. We're continuing to evaluate her interactions with other animals. Her visit to our cat room was overwhelming, so we cannot yet determine whether a home with cats would be appropriate.

Cheese will need patient, experienced people who understand Great Danes and are prepared to help her adjust to indoor living and new experiences at her own pace. A calm environment, consistent routine, and gentle encouragement will be important as she continues to build confidence.

Cheese is microchipped, 4DX tested, dewormed, and given monthly preventatives. She will be spayed prior to adoption, with adoption finalized once her remaining veterinary care is complete.

We have already received numerous applications for our Great Danes, and our director is currently reviewing them. Additional rescue and foster-to-adopt applications are welcome as we consider the best placement for each individual dog.
Apply to adopt here:
https://orangecountyva.gov/159/Pet-Adoption-Foster-Care-Information
