Charlie's Story

YOU MUST HAVE AN APPROVED APPLICATION IN ORDER TO MEET OUR PETS.

Charlie is an adorable little guy approximately two to three years old and weighing about 12.5 pounds. Our best guess is that he is a Chihuahua/Shih Tzu mix. He has the sleek coat and petite build of a smooth-coated Chihuahua, but his longer body and soulful Shih Tzu-like eyes give him a unique and irresistible look. His beautiful black-and-white coat makes him even more handsome.

Charlie came to us from the same situation as Harry and Yeti, where 11 dogs were allowed to roam freely and had very little experience as cherished family pets. Like Harry, Charlie is learning that life is safe, comfortable, and full of love.

Charlie is a happy little guy who loves to chase his tail and cannot help but bark with excitement when he is having fun. One of his sweetest milestones was carrying around a stuffed toy for the very first time, showing that he is beginning to discover the simple joys of being a dog.

He is still gaining confidence and can be a little shy when meeting new people, but once he feels safe, his affectionate personality shines through. Charlie enjoys being close to his people and is happiest when he knows he is part of the family. He still runs if you try to pick him up, but he will willingly come to you.

He is very sweet and a bit adventurous.

Because of his background, Charlie is still learning to walk on a leash, so his ideal home will have a securely fenced yard where he can safely explore while continuing to build confidence. He is doing well with housetraining on a consistent schedule and is crate trained, although he may voice his opinion for a few minutes before settling down.

Charlie is a little anxious riding in the car so a crate is recommended at this point.

He gets along nicely with other friendly dogs and is currently being fostered with his brother, Harry. The two are somewhat dependent on each other and could potentially be adopted together but this is not necessary. Like many siblings, they occasionally have little disagreements, but their dramatic grumbles are far worse than the actual interaction!

Charlie has not been tested with cats. A home without young children would likely be the best fit, although he has done well with a dog-savvy child.

Charlie is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and on heartworm prevention. Like Harry, he tested positive for exposure to Lyme disease but is currently showing no symptoms. His adopter should discuss any recommended monitoring or follow-up care with their veterinarian.

Charlie will begin attending enrichment at Downtown Dog Enrichment, where well continue learning more about his personality as he gains confidence and experiences new adventures.

Charlie does not ask for much, just patient people, a securely fenced yard, a cozy place to nap, and someone who will celebrate every little milestone with him. In return, youll gain a sweet, playful companion whose joyful tail-chasing and growing confidence are sure to bring a smile to your face every day.

Adoption donation $300

Please note that we do not ship animals. We also require a home visit before finalizing any adoptions so preference is given to applicants within a 90 mile range. You will be required to come to High Point, NC to meet/pick up your new pet.
