Charla's Story

Location: DeRidder, LA
DOB: 08/17/2024

Meet Charla, a sweet and soulful young Great Dane who blossoms into the ultimate velcro dog once she knows she’s safe. At first, she may be cautious with new people and new situations, but give her a few days and you’ll discover a goofy, affectionate girl with endless love to give. Her favorite place in the world is right next to you on the couch, leaning her full weight into you like the professional snuggler she is.

Charla has moderate energy and strikes a wonderful balance between playful and relaxed. She enjoys playing with toys and will happily entertain herself, but she’s just as content lounging in the sun or curling up beside her favorite person. Attention is her love language, and once she bonds, she bonds deeply.

Charla is fully housetrained and crate trained. She may cry briefly in her crate but settles quickly. She walks well on leash, though she may occasionally pull when something catches her interest. She is non-destructive when given appropriate chew toys and is still learning to feel comfortable in the car, where she settles nicely with a toy or bone after a short adjustment period.

Charla currently lives with four large dogs and enjoys playing with them. She does best with larger canine companions, as she can be enthusiastic and a bit rough during play. Because of her size and play style, she would not be a good fit for a home with small dogs.

She has also lived with cats. Initially cautious, she became more comfortable after a few days, but began chasing when the cats ran or played. Her size and enthusiasm were overwhelming for them, so a cat-free home or one with very dog-savvy cats would likely be the best fit.

Due to her size, excitement, and tendency to lean and jump when happy, Charla would do best in a home with older children or teens. She thrives in a calm environment with limited foot traffic and a patient family willing to give her a few days to adjust. A home with another large, playful dog would be ideal, though not required. She would also do best in a home where someone is around frequently, as she truly loves companionship.

Charla has shown mild resource guarding with high-value items like bones, so separated feeding and supervision around food items is recommended. She may also counter surf if food is left within reach, as she is smart and opportunistic.
Charla may have had a difficult past, but she adjusts quickly once she realizes she is safe. Her confidence continues to grow, and when she opens up, she becomes a loving, goofy, and devoted companion who simply wants to be close to her people.

If you are looking for a young Great Dane with a gentle heart, playful spirit, and loyal personality, Charla may be the perfect match.

To apply to adopt, please complete an application:
https://form.jotform.com/51994996709176

SRGDRR adopts nationwide and offers transport options to help you find your perfect match.

You can view other adoptable dogs at: saverockythegreatdane.org/adopt

Team Rocky Enterprises, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
How Our Adoption Process Works Team Rocky Enterprises DBA Save Rocky the Great Dane Rescue and Rehab (SRGDRR) follows a thoughtful adoption process designed to ensure the best possible match for both our dogs and their future families. Our available dogs are posted on our website, Facebook page, and multiple adoption platforms, including Petfinder. Once you find a dog you’re interested in, the process includes: 1. Adoption Application – This helps us learn about you, your household, and what you’re looking for in a dog so we can make the best match. 2. Veterinary Reference Check – We verify that current or past pets have received appropriate veterinary care. First-time pet owners are welcome and encouraged to apply. 3. Phone Interview – This is a chance for us to talk with you about the dog you’re interested in, including personality, needs, medical history, and any quirks. It’s also your opportunity to ask questions about the dog and our rescue. 4. Home Check – We confirm that your home environment is safe and appropriate for the dog, whether that includes a fenced yard or a leash-walking setup. This is not a housekeeping inspection—just a safety check. Once all steps are completed and approved, you’ll sign an adoption contract and submit an adoption donation. From there, your new forever friend will be ready to head home! Why This Process Matters Our goal is to match each dog with a home that best meets their needs. Some dogs thrive with experienced owners, while others do best with someone who is home most of the day or understands specific behavioral or medical needs. Taking the time to get this right helps ensure lifelong, successful adoptions. Our Lifetime Commitment If at any point you are unable to keep your adopted dog, you must contact us. We will always take our dogs back. We never want them to end up in unsafe situations or shelters again. Our responsibility to each dog lasts for their lifetime. Thank you for choosing rescue and for considering adoption with SRGDRR.
