Meet Champ

This sweet boy was discovered on a hunting camp in the backwoods of north Louisiana. He was beyond starving, and barely had the energy to walk up to people to ask for food. He tried as best he could to blend in with the hunters’ dogs and their families and would eagerly take handouts if some were thrown his way. He hid under trucks to escape the heat and would only come out when children bent down to call him. Calling a local shelter or rescue in this area was not an option, as there were not any in this town or any nearby. So he was taken by the Cobb family, back to Texas, in hopes of Cody’s Friends’ Rescue, being able to find him his fur-ever home.
After a trip to the vet, we learned champ was about 3 years old, he was un-neutered, and had heart worms. He should way no more than 45 lbs when he gains his weight back. The vet felt that although he was somewhat timid and hesitant, he clearly was somebody’s pet early on, because he seemed to really like people and was willing to give them a chance.
After spending some time with him, it was obvious that he had never been inside a home before, and that this was a new experience for him.
He is currently living with 3 labs and has learned to use a doggie door. There have been no accidents in the house since then. He seems to get along well with other dogs, but he has been fed separately in case of food aggression. He did growl once when a small child attempted to take his bone away. However, there was no snapping or biting. He is a sweet, calm, good natured boy, that seems to be adapting to domestic life, just fine. After months, maybe years of an uncertain future, he deserves a family that can give him the safety of a loving home that he longs for and so deserves.
