We will change her status to adopted when she is adopted.

*We base our adoption decisions on what is in the best interest of our dogs. Please note our adoption policies are in place for the safety and welfare of our dogs. We are all volunteers and have jobs, families, pets of our own to care for. We do the best that we can to get back to you in a timely manner. We believe in taking time to go through our thorough process to try to match the dog with the best fit for that dog.

*You must be approved to adopt Chai before we schedule a meet and greet. We do not transport our dogs.

*AGE: approximately 14 months (born Feb. 2025)

*WEIGHT: 40 lbs.; her ideal weight is 37 lbs.

*FENCE REQUIREMENT: A physical fence is recommended. No shock collars or invisible fences will be considered, as we do not feel these would set her up for success.

*COAT TYPE: Curly-wavy low-shedding coat. Adopter should be prepared to brush her coat often and have her groomed regularly with an estimated cost of $150/groom. She was just groomed due to matting to the skin and now she has a cute shorter summer cut.

*ENERGY LEVEL: Medium energy. She requires daily exercise. She does jump a little when she’s excited/you’re just returning home. She loves fetching and playing with toys. She currently takes 2 walks a day. She does settle and is very content to lay at your feet. She will go to bed when you do. She sleeps on a dog bed in her crate.

*DOGS: She previously lived with 2 big dogs (a Great Pyrenees and a Bernedoodle) with apparently no issues. Currently lives with 4 other Doodles and loves to play with them. Ideally Chai would be adopted in a to a home with another young playful dog. Like the majority of dogs, she will need some transition time to acclimate to her new home and dogs in the home. She has shown absolutely no aggression towards dogs or people.

*CATS: Prior owners had 2 cats and Chai wanted to run up and play with them but the cats didn’t like dogs. There are no cats in the foster home.

*KIDS: Yes! She has been around young children (no babies) and does great!. Foster home has no children. She loves getting pets and snuggles and can be a bit rambunctious when excited.

*CAR: She does well in the car!

*CRATE: Her foster crate trained her in one day. She is very smart! When her foster mom is home, she is left to free roam and does great. Only crated at night and when I am not home.

*HOUSE TRAINED: Yes!

*LEASH: She walks with a harness. She isn’t used to walking with a leash but does well considering she wasn’t leash trained prior to coming in to her foster home. She has been slightly skittish when she hears a loud noise.

*AT VET: GREAT!

*WITH GROOMING: GREAT! She was very matted and didn’t like her feet being touched but no issues.

Chai’s DNA test showed she is a wonderful mix of 40% Mini American Shepherd, 34% Poodle (Miniature and Toy), 11% Old English Sheepdog, 9% Poodle (Medium and Standard), and 4% Cocker Spaniel. We decided that Mini Aussiedoodle fits her DNA.

Chai was rehomed to IDOG from her family who loved her very much. They saved her when she was a puppy from a bad situation where she was left outside 24/7 and wanted her to have a wonderful forever home so they asked IDOG for assistance in rehoming her.

Chai is a happy dog! She has a smile on her face and a sweetness in her eyes that will make you melt! She weighs in at 40 lbs. and is working on keeping her great shape; her ideal weight is 37 lbs.

She is a very sweet and cheerful girl. She loves being near you, especially if it involves belly rubs. Her tail is in constant wagging motion when she’s greeting you or she is excited.

She quickly adapted to the foster home and has gotten pretty comfortable. When she first meets men she may be a bit shy. It took her a few days to acclimate to the man in her foster home and now she runs and jump in to his lap. She loves to play fetch with a ball in the back yard. She plays and plays with her foster’s dogs.

We ask that you give any rescue dogs time to acclimate – the 3/3/3 rule – 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months. For 3 days after adoption/transition, the dog may wonder who you are, what the routine is, who the other dogs are. After about 3 weeks, the dog has typically acclimated to your schedule & knows her role in the house. After about 3 months, the dog has revealed their temperament & personality & settled in.

Adjectives that describe Chai:
*Happy
*Friendly
*Cuddly
*Playful
*Adorable
*Sweet
*Excitable
*Loving
*Exuberant
*Snuggly

Activities she enjoys:
-Fetch!!
-Chewing on Benebones
-Walks
-Snuggles
-Playing with her foster siblings
-Loves being outside

A few “needs work” items for Chai:
*continue with her weight loss plan; she needs to lose 3 more lbs.
*Alert barking – she barks at some loud noises, cars driving by, people/dogs on walks
*Learning basic commands - she knows sit, shake, and down.

Ideal type of home for Chai:
-Fenced yard where she is able to run and play.
-Owner who is willing to take her to training to work on basic obedience to build her confidence and hone some of the commands she knows. She’s treat-motivated and takes treats gently.
-Owner who is able to walk and ensure her exercise needs are met. She’s more medium than high energy; she needs walks and playtime which will help with her weight loss.
-Single family house would be best rather than shared-wall housing due to her alert barking.

Chai’s new owner should be ready to put some work in to ensure that Chai learns the rules of the new home and sets expectations. She is a really good girl and just needs a bit of work to become the best girl ever!

Chai seems like she would do well in any household that can spend time with her and be part of the family. If you have a dog, she would love it!

Chai is spayed, microchipped, current on core vaccines and house and crate trained. She had a wellness vet visit on April 15, 2026. Her heartworm and fecal tests were negative.

ADOPTION FEE: $695

ADOPTION FEE EXPLANATION:
Puppies & highly adoptable dogs have a higher adoption fee to help IDOG cover the vetting & expenses of the other dogs in IDOG whose adoption fees do not cover their expenses. Our expenses are high these days due to increased vetting expenses, board & train costs, medical/health issues & surgery that is needed for some of our dogs. IDOG relies heavily on donations to bridge the gap between our adoption fees & our expenses. Unfortunately, donations are down across the board for all rescues.

To apply to adopt Chai-Washington, PLEASE COMPLETE THE APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE: http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application
