Cedar James (DM)'s Story
Meet Cedar James

Cedar James is a 33-pound standard Australian Shepherd and double merle with a story that's all about second chances.

When Cedar came to NTASR as a breeder surrender at just two years old, it was clear life hadn't been kind to him. He arrived alongside two other dogs, covered in fleas and ticks and terrified of the world around him. The kind of scared that hides under the bed and only comes out when absolutely necessary.

But Cedar has spent the last nine months proving that healing doesn't happen overnight, and that some of the biggest victories come in the smallest steps.

Today, the dog who once wanted nothing to do with people has transformed into a speedy little white shadow who loves being part of the action. He's still shy when meeting new people and prefers to make friends on his own timeline. His ideal introduction is simple: pretend he isn't there and casually toss a few treats his way. Before long, you'll have a new best friend.

One unexpected benefit of Cedar's deafness? Fireworks, thunderstorms, and loud chaos don't phase him one bit. While other dogs are searching for a safe place to hide, Cedar is usually sprawled upside down somewhere, completely unbothered and enjoying his nap.

Cedar is crate trained, potty trained, and gets along wonderfully with dogs, cats, and kids. He's food motivated, smart, curious, and always quietly observing the world around him.

What Cedar needs now is someone who understands that trust is earned, not rushed. Someone who will celebrate the little victories, respect his boundaries, and give him the time he needs to continue becoming the dog he was always meant to be.

He's fully vetted, ready for his forever home, and waiting for the person who sees just how special he is.
