Cavalier King Charles-Karlton

Karlton is an adorable 20-pound Ruby Cavalier who is just the sweetest boy. He loves to cuddle and would love nothing more than to devote himself to his human. The K-man will follow you everywhere and rest by your side. Karlton enjoys meeting new people and he gets along well with other dogs, big or small although he does get jealous (just pushy) if the other dog is getting pets or with treats. If you are looking for a calm, gentle, snuggle bug and constant companion, he's your little man. <br/><br/>Karlton does get a little bit zoomy after dinner and will chase his toys. He often carries them around, especially his favorite flat, floppy skunk. He has the Cavalier habit of stealing things that he finds. In his case, he wants to chew rather than trade and will readily hand things over - but it does mean you need to be careful about dropping or placing things within reach. He also likes to chase squirrels and birds and even leaves - he may be tiny, but he's still a spaniel. Another great thing about Karlton is he's not afraid of storms and was mainly fine over the 4th of July. Although this maybe due to some suspected hearing loss. <br/><br/>After coming into LWDR as a retired breeder, Karlton was neutered and had a dental. He had 9 teeth pulled - mainly incisors. During the dental they found a tiny spot that was thoroughly biopsied, then stained and found clear. While it should remain fine, it should be watched just to be safe. And like many Cavaliers his age, he has a very mild heart murmur (Grade 1 mitral valve disease (MVD)) that will also need to be monitored for any changes. He also had a UTI that cleared up, but we learned he has proteinuria and mildly elevated blood pressure indicating the beginning of mild kidney/renal disease. He takes a daily medication (telmisartan, ~$3/month) for his BP and protein. He should have his bp, urine, and blood chemistry checked every 6 months to monitor his conditions and an echocardiogram by a canine cardiologist should be done if his murmur progresses). He has also struggled with yeasty ears since coming into rescue. With the right care and good diet (good clean protein and we are trying no chicken or legumes) he should still live a normal life for years to come. <br/><br/>Karlton is making great progress and can almost be trusted with free roam - he's very well behaved, he's just still working on his potty training which is progressing if he is taken out regularly. And he politely waits to get his belly band put on when he comes inside. Karlton's is now leash trained. Although he's not an athlete (yet), he does enjoy a short walk. Although shorter in the heat as he's very sensitive to the heat and humidity. He's progressed to walking mile on a cool day. He's learned to go up and down stairs - though he'd likely prefer a house without stairs. 7 years old, 19 lbs adoption fee $450
