Carta's Story
Carta is in a foster home! Please submit an application from our website and email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to see you're a match!

Scroll through her pictures to see all of her cute videos!

Carta came to us from Chicago Animal Care and Control in February, and while she was waiting to be ready for adoption she spent time in a wonderful foster home. Carta lived with four kids ages 5-15, and she was AMAZING with them! After spending some time at the shelter while she recovered from her spay and being under the weather, she moved to another foster home and has again thrived there! We truly don't know how she hasn't been adopted yet because her foster homes can't stop raving about her!

Her first foster family shared, "Carta is a happy, bubbly, affectionate pup who loves everyone she meets and wants nothing more than to be near her people. Carta loves squeaky toys, bones, and Kongs, and is great about chewing her own toys once she knows what's hers.

Sweet, social, and eager to please, Carta will thrive in a home that can continue her training and shower her with love, playtime, and plenty of appropriate chew toys. She's going to make a joyful, loyal companion for a very lucky family!"

At the shelter, Carta loved playgroup (as you can see from her videos!). It is so cute how she lights up and becomes the life of the party! She has also enjoyed enrichment puzzles and lots of snuggles with her volunteer friends

Carta is lucky to be spending time in a foster home currently with another dog, who she adores. She is such a good girl! Her current foster mom writes, "Carta is sweet, silly, and SO cute - and will make a great addition to any family! From her tail that never stops wagging to her big smile, she is such a little love!

Carta LOVES toys - stuffies are her absolute favorite, and she loves to thrash them around like a little alligator or play tug with her foster brother. She loves every person (adults and kids) and dog she's met and is just as happy to play with them as she is to curl up and cuddle - she's an expert snuggler, too!

She's still a puppy, so she gets the zoomies and bursts of energy and then loves to follow that up with a nice, long nap. She is a great work from home companion who is generally super quiet and happy to either take a snooze or entertain herself while I'm on calls.

Carta is house and crate trained and does well with both, especially after learning the routine! At night, she settles right into her crate and sleeps through until morning without a peep.

She's working on learning her manners, but she is SO treat motivated and tries her hardest. Carta is learning the rules of my house and is overall a great dog - once she really masters her manners, she is going to be the BEST. She is also working hard on leash walking (when you think everyone is a friend, it can be hard to focus!), but her love of a tasty treat helps keep her focused.

Most of all, Carta is just the sweetest dog and any family who gets to call her their own will be so, so lucky."

If you're looking for some four-legged joy to add to your family, we hope you'll come meet Carta!

Carta's adoption fee is $300. This animal is spayed, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
