Carly's Story

Carly is a quiet, gentle, 12 lb, 5-year-old Poodle who is finally getting the chance to learn what it feels like to be loved.

For most of her life, Carly was used for breeding and lived in a crowded pen with multiple dogs, receiving very little human interaction or affection. She never had the opportunity to experience life as a beloved companion. Thankfully, she was rescued from that horror and found her way to Homes Fur Hounds.

Carly is still working on house training and is doing well using piddle pads. She had never walked on grass or been on a leash, so these experiences need to be introduced slowly and patiently. She doesn't yet understand commands yet and being handled is still new to her. However, her foster mom can pick her up for snuggles and lap time, and once she's in her arms, Carly relaxes a bit. She doesn't fight or try to escape. She simply needs time to learn that human hands can be kind, gentle, and safe.

Because she had very little human interaction in her previous life, Carly is still learning some basic concepts, such as:

-Humans can be nice
-Grass is not lava
-Leashes are not torture devices
-Being loved is actually pretty awesome

Carly is a sweet little gal. She gets along with people, cats, and other dogs, although she'd really prefer everyone respect her personal bubble until she gets to know them.

Carly's ideal home will be calm, quiet, and predictable, with someone home most of the time. She finds comfort in the company of other dogs, so a calm canine companion would be a wonderful influence, especially if she may be left alone occasionally. Because sudden movements and loud noises can terrify her, a home without young children would be best. A fenced yard will be important as she learns more about people touching her, leashes and walking out in the great, big world.

Carly isn't looking for a superhero to fix her. She's looking for someone who will be patient, believe in her, and give her the time she needs to discover that the world can be a safe and loving place. And someone who will help her lose a couple of pounds – she is a bit chubby.

She is microchipped, spayed, and up to date on vaccines.

If you have room in your heart and home for a deserving little soul and would like to help Carly write the next chapter of her story, please consider submitting an application.

Located in Williamsburg, VA
Apply at: www.homesfurhounds.org

Homes Fur Hounds, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
1. Once you have identified the dog(s) you are interested in meeting, you must submit an Adoption Application. You can find the application at https://www.homesfurhounds.org 2. Be patient. We occasionally have a high volume of applications, especially on puppies. 3. If your application is approved you will be contacted to arrange a meet and greet with the dog(s) you are interested in meeting. Whenever we have more than one applicant who is approved, we set up the meet and greet in the order in which the applications were received. 4. We are a small rescue group and do require home checks. Therefore, we only adopt to VA, NC and MD. Exceptions are made for medically needy or seniors if no qualified applicant is located in our adoption area. 5. We do keep applications on file for 6 months, so even if you aren’t selected for a particular dog, if you see another dog of interest, let us know and we will consider your application at that time. 6. Please don’t be offended if you are not selected to adopt. We try to match the dog with the BEST home for them. Just because you weren’t selected for a specific dog does not mean you can’t apply for another one. 7. Our adoption fee is $300.00.
