Carlie's Story

Meet Carli - A Little Dog with a Big, Beautiful Journey Ahead

Eight pounds of sweetness, with a heart that's just beginning to learn how to trust.

Carli is a tiny black Shih Tzu, about 4 years old, with so much love waiting to blossom. Her story began as a breeding dog who never had the opportunity to learn that people could be kind, gentle, and safe. The world was a frightening place, and hiding felt like the safest thing to do.

But look at her now!

In just three months, Carli has made amazing progress. She has gone from spending most of her time hiding under the bed to joining her foster mom and her four canine companions in the family room. She now eats in the same room as the other dogs, joins them outside, and is beginning to learn how to walk on a leash.

And perhaps the sweetest milestone of all? For the past couple of days, Carli has been greeting her foster mom at the door alongside the other dogs, her little tail wagging with excitement! She follows her foster mom around the house, gives gentle kisses to her hand, and clearly wants to be petted. She may still be nervous when someone stands up or moves toward her, but once she feels safe enough to be held, she will settle into a lap and enjoy the comfort of being close.

These may seem like little things, but for Carli, they are huge victories. Every wag, every kiss, and every brave little step is a sign that she is learning to trust.

Carli needs a very special adopter-someone with patience, a gentle heart, and the understanding that trust cannot be rushed. A quiet home without lots of visitors would be ideal. Another kind, well-adjusted dog could be a wonderful role model, helping Carli continue to build confidence and discover the joys of being a beloved family member.

She may not be the dog who runs up to greet a stranger or curls up in your lap on the first day. Her love comes with a little more waiting, a little more patience, and a whole lot of tenderness. But imagine the joy of being the person who helps this frightened little girl finally feel safe.

Carli has already come so far. She is showing us that beneath all that fear is a sweet, affectionate little soul who wants to love and be loved.

Could you be the safe place Carli has been waiting for?

She doesn't need someone to change who she is. She just needs someone to give her the time, kindness, and security to become the happiest version of herself.

Carli's adoption fee is $450

This fee includes at least one health exam at our veterinarian while in our care, altering, all vaccinations including rabies (as permitted by age), a pre-adoption professional grooming and a microchip with lifetime membership that never will cost you a fee. All dogs also leave with a new collar and or harness and leash as well as a gift bag which includes among other things, a starter bag of the quality kibble that is being fed at the rescue. Adoption fees also allow us the ability to put funds towards the next homeless or unwanted dog in need of rescue! If you would like to be considered to for this adoption or any of our amazing rescues, please fill out the application with the help of this link. https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/AZST/Dog.
