Captain's Story

Hi there! My name is Captain and I'm a 2 1/2 year old Saint Bernard/ German Shepherd Mix currently living at the Santa Barbara Campus, eager for a new home!

Ahoy there! Captain is reporting for duty and ready to steer his way straight into your heart. This 104-pound cargo ship is full of love, drool, and absolute goofiness. Equal parts gentle giant and enthusiastic first mate, Captain is looking for a crew that understands large breeds and is ready to help him navigate things like impulse control and polishing up his leash manners. Captain has successfully sailed alongside another dog before and done well with young kids too! He may even do okay around livestock with proper introductions, but felines are firmly on his "walk the plank" list. Cats need not apply.

This handsome sea captain's favorite hobbies include making people laugh with his silly antics, spreading drool like ocean mist, and acting like a lap dog despite weighing as much as a small pirate crew. He's the kind of dog who will happily be your co-captain on adventures, then dramatically flop onto the floor afterward like he just survived a storm at sea. If you've got room in your harbor for a big-hearted, goofy, slightly slobbery captain, then Captain is ready to come aboard and make your home his forever port!

Adoptions are open 12pm-4:30pm every day, except Wednesdays, and no appointment is needed.

Like all SBH animals, when I am adopted I will have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Adoptions also include a certificate for a complimentary post-adoption veterinary exam from a local clinic and our partners at Hills Science Diet will provide a supply of food for my first few days at home.

Need some supplies? Both SB Humane Campuses have retail centers stocked with everything you need, at comparable prices, and your purchase helps support our mission.

Hope to see you soon!
